Soon, I'm showing Ann my room, as she tells me the details about all her friends.
"So, our friends and Teddy and I, we're like in one big group. In the group we've all been attending Mayberry Prestigious Preparatory -we just call it M-Prep- for about 8 years," Ann starts, "So there are 4 girls in the group including me, and then 5 boys including Teddy. We're not all in the same grade, but close enough to be really close. The girls' names are Lolita- who is kind of moody, but is actually really nice- then Kelly, Margaret- or Margy- and then me. Kelly is really into fantasy, like Teddy rudely pointed out earlier, and DIY crafts, Margy is super smart and also really nice, but kind of likes to keep her feelings to herself, then Lolita is really into hair-styling and fashion."
To me, Lolita kind of sounds like one of those "popular girls" you always see on T.V., but I guess that's just a stereotype. There weren't really any of those types of people at my old school. And judging from what Ann is saying about her group of friends, they're, like, the more popular group at M-Prep.
"Then there's the boys. So there's Randy, J.T., Owen, John, and Teddy. Randy and John are really athletic, Randy is the football team captain, soccer for you, and John is on the polo team. Randy, though, is actually a big bookworm, and John loves baking, he works at the bakery downtown. Owen is kind of secluded like he's in his own little world most of the time, and he doesn't talk much, but he's pretty smart. Then J.T. is a technical genius, sometimes, he'll be called into other classrooms to help teachers with bugs in their computers. That's how good he is. He is also really friendly. Everyone is really friendly in our group. I can't wait for you to meet them!" she exclaims as she bounces on my bed.
"They seem really nice," I say.
"They are!"
A knock sounds on my bedroom door.
"Come in!" I call out.
Sarah walks in, towing a red suitcase. "Miss, they found one of your lost items of baggage. The other one, however, seems to be missing still."
"Oh wow, thank you!" I say, grabbing it. It has a pineapple luggage tag on it, which I bought so I could tell which suitcase had what things in it. This suitcase has my jackets and coats, shoes, and some more outfits in it.
"Your welcome, Miss," Sarah says, then exits out of the room before I get the chance to say thank you.
"That's great, then!" Ann cries, "Do you have coats and stuff in there?"
"Yes! And rainboots!" I exclaim, my excitement matching Ann's for the first time.
"Good, good! So cool! Can I help you unpack?!"
"Yeah, of course."
My phone dings with a text message. "Wait one second," I tell Ann, checking my phone.
It's a text from my friend Kailey back in California, responding to my pictures of my suite and the dinner I ate yesterday night.
K: OMG, so jelly! U lucky😫
I text her back.
V: i know, but miss u!😥
K: Me toooo!!!😥
I read the last message and turn off my phone.
"Sorry, that was a text from a friend back in the U.S."
"No problem!"
"Meow!" A white cat has just appeared in my room, startling me into jumping.
"What the...?!"
Ann gives a small smile. "Sorry, that's Teddy's cat, Cloud. He kind of just roams around, don't mind him."
"Oh, okay." I like cats, but I'm not huge on them, and this one is kind of creepy, even though it looks normal. "It's like it's staring into my soul," I murmur, loud enough for Ann to hear me.
The cat is staring at me intently, not eye-to-eye, but at me. Like, at my head.
Ann shrugs. "Yeah, it's kind of creepy, I always have the feeling it's stalking me somehow, but whatever. It's just a cat."
Right.
I wheel my suitcase out with Ann to my closet, while the cat stares after us sitting in front of my bed. There is something really weird about that cat, even though it seems normal. I'm going to try to stay clear of it while I'm here, nevertheless. It's just... there's something really off about that cat. I don't know why.
The rest of the day is pretty normal, without any other strange things happening, and Ann and I spend it unpacking and checking out the art gallery. At the end of the day, the only thing I'm really worried about is tomorrow, and the friends coming over. I guess I'll see how that goes.
