"Ah shit..." Will muttered under his breath once he saw his friends storming towards him. He'd taken the bus into school that Monday morning just to avoid talking to them. It wasn't like he was never going to speak to them again. He just needed a bit more time to himself, but apparently that wasn't going to be the case.
"William Andrew Evans, don't you dare even think about running away from us!" Liv cried out once she was within earshot. All the students around them turned to look at the commotion.
Goddammit, Liv, Will sighed mentally. Couldn't have done this in private, could she...
Will braced himself once the four girls stopped about a metre away from him. Liv looked pissed, while the other three stood awkwardly, as if they really didn't want to be there. Will was feeling the same way.
"What the hell happened on Saturday?" Liv asked.
"Can we, uh, not do this here?" Will pressed, tilting his head towards the audience that they'd gathered, eyeing them in interest.
Liv shot a look over to them and sighed. "Fine," she conceded, coming forward to grab Will's hand and pulled him to a more private area as the other girls followed.
"So what happened up there?" Kimi asked once they were alone.
Will heaved a sigh, not really wanting to explain. "Well, once we left you guys, we walked down the beach and ending up on Commodore Point. We got smashed on the bench and uh, he came up in conversation. So, um, I deflected it and began to tear up," Will recounted, sniffing a little at the build-up of emotion he was beginning to feel. Emmie hooked her arm over his shoulder and rubbed his arm comfortingly. "And then, Oliver, he - uh - kissed me," Will finished to gasps.
"Oh my god, no way!" Cash exclaimed. "What happened next?"
"He freaked out and ran off, and I sat up there by myself for an hour."
"What was the kiss like?" Kimi asked, too curious not to ask.
"Don't ask that," Emmie scolded, hitting her on the arm. They were silent for a moment before Emmie asked the same question, to Kimi's hateful glare.
"It was good... It was great. There was that spark and it was perfect. Before he had to ruin the moment by running away..." Will groaned, because it was perfect. It was a moment he'd always remember. And Oliver running away was something he'd never forget.
"I'm so sorry, Will," Emmie consoled, rubbing his arm again.
"It's fine," Will sighed. "Besides, I kind of have Ryan now," he casually slipped in.
"Oh yeah, what happened there?" Cash chimed in. "Never thought I'd ever see you and Ryan ever holding hands."
"Well, he found me up there by myself and joined me. He was being an annoying asshole as always and for some reason, I just started to cry. So he just comforted me. He sat there and tried to make me feel better and it was really nice. Much more than I'd ever expect out of him. And he just wouldn't let go of my hand, but I liked it, I really did! And when Oliver ran into him on accident. Oh, did you hear about that? Anyway, Oliver ran into him and winded him and he started to be an ass to us when he saw me and Ryan being close. Ryan wanted to defend me, but I didn't let him, since it would've started a fight and I didn't want that. And he drove me home, and we talked about stuff, like how his girlfriend was cheating on him, and how they broke up and how he actually likes me. He's actually a really sweet guy, and I'm going on a date with him," Will rambled on and on, before running out of breath. His face had lit up at the mention of Ryan.
The girls looked on, utterly confused by what they were seeing. What the hell was happening?! they all thought as they tried to process Will's rambling.
"So, you and him are dating?" Kimi started, asking the obvious question.
"Uh, no, we're not at that stage. We're just gonna go on a date first."
Before anyone could ask anything else, the morning bell rang. They all began to make their way to homeroom but Will pulled Liv aside, who had been real quiet during the conversation.
"Are you alright?" he asked. "You didn't say anything."
"I'm so sorry, Will, I shouldn't have meddled," Liv sniffed, looking broken over the mistake she believe she'd made. "I thought he liked you back, and it was going to go well and you'd be a happy little gay couple right now."
Will pulled her into a hug, not all that upset with her anymore. She obviously knew what she'd done, and he didn't ever really blame her for anything that happened Saturday. "It's OK Liv, yeah, I'm fine. And like you said: you don't know unless you try. And I tried. So, there's nothing else for me to do. Besides, Saturday ended better than it started."
"Are you sure?" she asked, not entirely believing him. Will nodded reassuringly with a smile. Liv smiled back, happy that her friend was too. "Just be careful, yeah? We don't want you to get your heart broken again," she added, pulling out of the hug.
"Don't worry, I'll be OK," he replied, making his way to class.
"I'm sure you will," she smiled. "Have you talked to Oliver yet?"
"No, not yet," Will frowned. "I don't know the next time I will, to be honest."

A week. A week was the next time Will would speak to Oliver. It was after French class the following Monday when Oliver raced after Will and got him to stop.
For a week, each time Oliver had attempted to talk to Will, one of the girls would intercept and kindly tell him to leave Will alone. Or, in Liv's case, tell him to "fuck off" and "never speak to him ever again" - because Liv is ever the charmer. But today, Will was without a buffer and Oliver took this opportunity to strike.
"What do you want, Oliver?" Will growled, incensed by the blonde's mere presence.
"I-I just wanted to talk to you about the beach party," Oliver stammered, thrown off by the other's sour attitude. "I was a complete asshole and I wanted to apologise."
"Yeah, fine. Whatever," Will muttered dismissively, not really wanting to continue this conversation. He turned and began to leave. Oliver growled, irritated by Will's horrible attitude. He threw his arm out in front of the other boy, getting him to stop.
"Why are you so angry at me?" Oliver questioned. His eyebrows furrowed and he frowned. He probably wouldn't admit it, but Oliver missed chatting with Will. Will was one of the few people Oliver actually felt comfortable around. After what he did at that party, he was worried that he'd lost the comfortable friendship he'd had with Will. "Is there any way we can move past this?"
Will stood awkwardly, feeling uncomfortable under blonde's intense gaze. He sighed. "Yeah, I guess," the redhead conceded. "It was a drunken mistake by the both of us and it's probably best if we just forget it." Will still wasn't happy but he guessed it was the best thing to do.
"Awesome!" Oliver grinned, clapping Will on the back. Will tried hard but he couldn't stop a small smile growing on his face either. "So, what's happening with you and Ryan?" he asked, scowling at himself for doing that the instant he'd said it. "I mean, I don't really have a right to know but I was just curious," he added quickly afterwards.
"Nah, it's fine," Will replied with a small smile of reassurance. "And, uhh, Ryan and I are taking things slow. We haven't been on a date yet, so," he shrugged.
Will had spent a week trying not to overthink things and so far, he'd been pretty good. Well, except for the time he ended up imagining the two children they'd adopt together.
Annabelle and Tyson.
And so, the two teens dawdled back to their lockers, catching up over the week they'd spent apart. Even though Will was happy to have taken his friend back, he still questioned:
Did I do the right thing?
