"Mom"
Only a small snore came from Janet.
"Mom!"
Still nothing.
"MOM!"
Janet jumped up, shaking her head, eyes widened (basically how every mom wakes up).
"What Riley what what what"
"Tan we go to Target"
"We are going to Targ- what time is it?"
Janet stared at her phone, adjusting her eyes to the extreme brightness in the dark room.
"Riley it's 8am gimme 2 more hours"
"PWEASEE"
"1 more hour"
"Fine"
Riley stomped out of the room, trying to slam the door behind her but failing due to her incredibly small hands.
Nothing was heard until an hour later.
"I gotta get up for my stupid kid" Janet thought, eyes slim, still full of tiredness.

The exhausted mother grabbed her phone, went to Spotify and began playing Sweater Weather whilst she got changed. She scavenged for a hoodie in her wardrobe but ended up wearing a black baggy t-shirt with grey jogging bottoms (sweatpants).
"Riley what do you want for breakfast, toast or cereal?"
Footsteps grew closer to the kitchen, ready to answer the question.
"Toast pwease, the cereal tastes like sticks"
"Okay okay, I get you don't like shreddies"
Janet took the loaf of white bread from next to the toaster, placed two pieces in it and pushed the lever down, allowing them to toast.
They both waited for their breakfast to be ready, when it was, Janet buttered both pieces and put them on plastic plates (to make sure Riley didn't break anything again).
"Tan we put Frozen on pwease" Riley said casually, like she was trying to act innocent to get her way.

"Riley we're leaving in 5 minutes there's no point, unless you don't wanna go to Tar-" Before she could even finish her sentence, her daughter was viciously shaking her head.
Janet just laughed and collected both of their shoes, she was wearing some white converse and Riley was wearing her favourite Elsa shoes.

They both hopped into the car, turned on the acceleration and began driving on their wta to the nearest Target, about 15 minutes away.
"Tan we play Let It Go?"
"Riley, if I listen to that song one more time I'm going to explode"
"PWEASE"
"No!"
"PWEASE"
"You know what, I'm actually gonna play some music I like but it's the Kids Bop version so you're gonna like it too" Her strong Boston accent shon through.
The kids version of 'Get the Party started' Began playing, Janet was singing along and Riley was enjoying it but didn't want to.
After 30 seconds both of them were bopping their heads and singing along.
"So, what do you think, better than Frozen?" Janet smirked after seeing Riley jamming along to the song as much as she was.
"Frozen is a masterpiece, but this is a bop" Riley replied, standing by her statement.
"I'll take what I can get"

When they arrived at Target, Janet was more than thankful she survived a whole car ride without listening to Frozen.
Riley and her mum got out of the Jeep, locked the doors and began on their way to the entrance.
"I want that one!" The toddler pointed to the pyramid of Elsa dolls being advertised in the window.
"We haven't even gotten into Target yet calm down" This statement wasn't convincing, Riley had her mind set on the Elsa doll so when they entered, she ran straight to it, grabbed a box tightly and put it in the basket.

"You sure this is the one you want?"
"Yup!"
"Okay, well I'm gonna try on some outfits for Saturday, I don't really have something suitable for it in my wardrobe at the moment"
"Otay!" Riley followed Janet to the clothes section and started helping her pick out some nice clothing.

Suddenly, Janet's phone pinged, it was a message from Katrina.

Katrina❤️

Hey Janet, one thing, don't wear
a dress or uncomfortable shoes
on Saturday x

Janet read it, and replied

Katrina❤️

Okay thanks Katrina x

The two continued searching for a nice outfit, Janet caught her eye on a blue shirt, it was navy blue shirt with gems on the edges of the colour.
"Riley I think I'm gonna get this" She exclaimed, admiring the shirt to check it was okay.

"Janet?"
Her head shot around to the familar voice, it spoke in a strong southern accent which wa a unusual around here. She then noticed who it was.
"Carol?"
"Hi! I just saw you and thought I'd come say h-" She looked at the shirt Janet was holding.
"Oo, where you going?"
"Oh I have a uh a date" Her palms began to sweat, she repeated the same sentence in her mind  'please don't ask who with, please don't ask who wi-'
"Oh that's lovely, who with?"
'damnit'
"Um just this guy, you don't know him"
"Oh alright, well I'd love to, maybe you two could come round some time" It was like Carol was sceptical but didn't want to show it.
"Yea" A nervous laugh echoed from Janet's vocal chords 'play it cool' she told herself.
They both stood in an awkward silence for what felt like an eternity.
"Well I better be off, nice talking to you!" Carol was always the friend to never be cruel and loved talking to others.
"You too"

"Mom, you have got to practice lying" Riley didn't hold back with honesty.
"Was I that bad?"
"You stuttered in every word and scratched the back of your neck during every sentence"
"Oh-" She had no words because Riley was right, she had to prepare for situations like this  because it was going to happen again no matter what.

Shaking the encounter off of her, Janet threw the shirt, which was currently on a hanger, into the basket, that hung from her arm, and made her way to the cash registers at the front of the Target.
"Just these please"
"Alright" the cashier replied, smiling with a forced grin.
Janet scanned her, took the items and made her way out of the shop, with her excited daughter bouncing around next to her.
