Hayes

Kaylin hadn't come out of her room since yesterday afternoon. Don't know if she ultimately stayed in there or came out whenever she knew the cost was clear because there's no way she stayed for all this time without needing food and water and the bathroom.

Kaylin's door finally opened and she arose from her chambers.

"Hey," I greeted her silently.

"Yo," she greeted back, not even looking at me.

"You ready to talk?" I asked.

"Nope," she flashed me. Suddenly there was a knock on the door.

Kaylin walked over and opened it and my blood began to boil.

"Where the fuck were you? I could've been popped out there man I needed some backup," he hovered over her.

"I'm sorry," she began, "I got into some shit yesterday so I couldn't leave."

"Is it that white boy of yours? Y'know we got over that whole colonisation shit-"

"Yo, what the fuck?" I asked as I stood behind Kaylin.

"Oh you're here," he examined me from head to toe, "y'know when the streets call you can't tell your girl she can't answer. We stick together out there."

"Listen man I don't want any trouble," I clenched my jaw. I was starting to get mad.

"Babe," Kaylin turned around and cupped my cheeks, "why don't we go to the kitchen, I'll give you a beer and we can talk."

With that she took my hand and led me to the kitchen, opening the fridge and taking out a beer, handing it to me.

"Thanks," I said under my breath, "I can't believe you got him showing up here now."

"I didn't even know he was coming," she scoffed.

"You know I can hear y'all right!" he yelled.

I stepped forward but Kaylin stopped me. She then closed the door of the kitchen.

"Listen," she brought her voice down to a small whisper, "I'll talk to him. Just tell him that he can't be here right now, he'll understand and leave."

"He better," I opened my beer and drank a quarter of the bottle. I didn't even drink beer that often so I guess I must've been real pissed.

Kaylin walked out of the kitchen and into the living room. I stayed behind in the kitchen and tried very carefully to listen to the conversation. It was easy since the kitchen was basically right next to the living room and the door had a small, but blurry, window. I peeped through the window and saw them talking. It seemed like Kaylin was telling him to buzz off. Then I saw him whisper something in her ear.

"What's going on here?" I asked as I burst out the kitchen. I didn't appreciate how close he was to her.

"I'm leaving white boy," he stood up and put his hand up.

"If it's important just call next time okay," Kaylin gritted through her teeth as he headed for the door.

"Bye Kaylin," he looked at her one last time as he opened the dooor.

"Bye bitch boy," he scowled at me, looked at Kaylin blowing her a quick kiss.

"Get the fuck out man," I raised my voice and before he could do anything Kaylin lunged forward and shut the door, locking it.

"How can you let someone like that into our space?" I questioned aggressively.

"He's gone. And I told him about the boundaries. Come on baby, cool it," she sighed, "listen. Why don't I take you somewhere familiar tomorrow?"

"Where?" I crossed my arms.

"The club. I know a nice joint further into the city. We'll go there, blow off some steam," she wrapped her arms around me and started kissing my neck.

"I'm down. I mean hey, any place where I get to see you dance is a place I wanna go," I smirked.

Finally. A taste of my old life again.
