Soulmate AU where two soulmates must meet in order to die together. 

Soulmates were a weird thing.
It's not like you receive an email saying "Congratulations, you have a soulmate. Here's where you can find it"
You were just thrown in the pit, hoping for the best. One could go a lifetime without finding their soulmate.
The nice thing was, that once two soulmates met, that could grow old and die together. But then again, there was a catch. You just needed to meet them before going down the road with destination death. So,your soulmate could be someone you met on the metro or your barista and you wouldn't know.

When Tony and Bucky met, the worst case scenario happened. First, Tony blasted Bucky's arm away and then Bucky's best friend almost killed Tony. Even if there were signs, it was not the right time to acknowledge them or to chat about the possibility of them being soulmates.
To be honest, nor was  after the whole Siberia ting. For what Tony knew, Bucky was dead or something. And he didn't really care.
At first, he cared about Steve, hoping he would show up or something, but as the time passed by, he managed to lock Steve and everything that happened in a small cage at the back of his mind.

Everyone on the battlefield stopped. Around Tony there was his family. Steve was not there. He didn't think he could ever be Tony's family.
Bucky fell on his knees, hanging on Steve's arm. He didn't know what was up with him, he just felt his heart aching and all of his strength
He couldn't breathe. Steve kneeled next to Bucky.
"I'm dying Steve" he said, holding Steve's hand.
Steve sat down, taking Bucky's head on his lap, caressing his hair.
"Steve" Bucky panted.
Bucky took one last look at Steve before closing his eyes. He was tired and weak. Steve smiled.
"It's ok, Buck"
Bucky breathed in one last time before he let himself go, shutting his body down.
Steve put their foreheads together and a tear fell on Bucky's cheek. Steve turned, trying to find Tony. Even when things got bad, Tony always made him feel better. In that moment, he just wanted to hear Tony's snarky comments.
Around Tony there was his family, Pepper was crying on Tony's chest and Rhodey had one am around Peter. Tony was on the ground with his eyes shut close.

Bucky was laying on something soft, like a cloud. He opened his eyes and got blinded by a strong light. Suddenly a shadow covered the source of the light. He opened the eyes just to see Tony standing over him.
"Good morning Barnes"
Bucky growled.
"Are we.."
"Dead? Yes. Now get your ass up"
Bucky got up, looking around. There was nothing but a road.
"You're rocking the new hairstyle by the way"
Bucky passed his hand through his hair, feeling them short, as they were before the war.
Then he saw the arm. It was not Hydra's nor Wakandas's. It was his real, flesh arm.
They walked silently down the road until they reached a beautiful cabin. Suddenly, everything was surrounded by tall, beautiful trees and, right next to the cabin, there was a beautiful lake. The sun was reflecting on the surface and Tony was waiting for him to walk in.
The house was big and light came in from every window.
"Is this heaven?"
Tony took a burger from the kitchen.
"Uh... I sure hope it is" he said, sitting down on the kitchen chair next to Bucky.
Bucky was looking at his reflection on the window. He looked exactly as he looked in the 40s, like the war and Hydra never happened.
Tony took a note from the table that they had ignored before.
"Congratulations. You have found your soulmate. Prepare to spend eternity with them"
Bucky and Tony looked at each other and shook their shoulders, smiling at each other.

Bucky took two beers from the fridge, one for him and one for Tony.
Tony was sitting on the steps of their large porch, looking at the lake. Outside it was chilly and Tony, as usual, was out in his tank top. Bucky shook his head and picked up his jacket from the hanger and walked out.
He placed the jacket on Tony's shoulders and sat next to him, handing him a beer.
Tony thanked him and moved closer to Bucky, their thighs were touching.  Tony took a sip of his beer and leaned his head against Bucky's shoulder.
Bucky froze for a second at the contact with the shorter brunet.
"To the beginning of eternity" Tony said, clinking his bottle with Bucky's.
Bucky leaned his head on Tony's, putting his arm around Tony's waist.
"To eternity together"
