Tony didn't know anything about the strange place called Brooklyn. He just followed his parents on their important business trip and all of a sudden, he found himself playing in a public park. With other kids. He never did that, in Atra. He was not allowed to play with any other kid. His butler Jarvis and his wife Anna were his only companions.
In that playground, surrounded by kids his own age, Tony felt like he was living a dream. He wanted to have friends his whole life, he wanted to play with kids his whole life and now his dreams came true.
He just wanted to be like everybody else and he couldn't believe it when a small, boney child asked him to join him in his game. He shot a look at Anna and waited for her to tilt her head and then ran after the little boy.
The two boys barely played before the blond boy asked Tony if he wanted to get married. Tony thought it was quite strange playing pretend weddings, but then again, maybe that was what kids did in Brooklyn. The boy, who was younger than Tony was, pulled a wrinkled piece of paper from his pocket and handed it to him with a red pen. Tony stuck his tongue out to write his name as best as he could and passed it back to the boy, who scribbled something. Then, Anna called Tony, it was time for him to go back to his normal, boring, lonely life.
Before he ran away, the boy slid the piece of paper into Tony's pocket and kissed his cheek.
That boy occupied Tony's mind for the rest of his life. That was definitely the weirdest, best interaction he had with another human being outside of his palace. Every time he wished for a normal life, his mind kept wandering back to that moment. He even kept that little piece of paper that was supposed to be their fake marriage certificate. It had never left his pocket in all of those years. As he grew older, Tony tried to use Atra's resources to find that boy, but he never had any success. After all, Tony didn't even know his name. His signature on the piece of paper was nothing more than an illegible scribble. Tony eventually made peace with the fact that that bout was just going to live in his memories, destined to never meet again.
Little did Tony know that the Universe had different plans for them.
Tony's parents died just a few months before his 18th birthday, and as heir to the throne of Atra, Tony was required to marry.
He was presented with tons of princes and princesses of neighbouring kingdoms. Tony was forced to attend infinite, boring balls, where royals courted him for a shot at the most sought-after throne of the Ten Kingdoms. But Tony, Tony wasn't interested in any of them. He just wanted to get out of his uncomfortably tight clothes, take that heavy crown off his head and work and hide in his lab to work on his incredibly advanced technology."Sire, as the rightful heir to the throne, you have to marry..."
"It's in the law, yeah yeah, I know"
Tony rolled his eyes at his advisors and settled on the floor, petting the court's new puppy.
"Your next birthday is approaching, Sir..."
"And I have to be married by then, I know the law"
Suddenly, the door shut close and the crowd of advisors and court people turned their attention to Jarvis, who had just entered the room with a chunky book in his arms.
"Your Majesty" Jarvis bowed before the king.
"Jarv!" Tony pumped his fist on Jarvis', under the judgmental eyes of the court. Tony may have done that on purpose, he liked rebelling against the strict rules that his family had been following for ages.
"My Lord, I fear a wedding won't be possible"
The advisors were looking at the butler with their mouths open.
"And why is that?"
"The law said that no wedding can be performed if there is an already existing previous wedding"
"This is madness, there is no other marriage" someone from the court shouted.
"That...that might not be true" Tony whispered.
The advisors looked at each other, not understanding what was going on.
"What are you on about, Your Majesty?"
Tony ignored all of the comments and questions coming from the court. He looked at Jarvis, as shocked as anybody else.
"Jarv, is this... is this what I think it is?"
Jarvis nodded.
"How can that be possible? I was- Tony stopped to lower his voice- six"
"I know your Majesty, but it's stated in the Gran Book"
Jarvis pointed at the article on the old, yellow page of the Gran Book.
"This is bullshit," Tony blurted out, gaining the unwanted attention of his companions.
"Our Majesty here married a lovely boy many many years ago in a park when he followed his parents on a business trip in Brooklyn" Jarvis explained.
"And the marriage is...valid?"
Tony passed to the closest court person the little piece of paper. The people in the room owed at the fake certificate.
"It seems like this is legit""He's here, Sir" Jarvis announced, walking out of Tony's suite.
Tony looked at himself in the mirror, adjusting his tie, contemplating if wearing the crown would be too much.
It took time to finally find the mysterious boy, but with Tony's excellent technology, they thought they had the right one. Tony got in touch with him, explained the situation and asked him to reach him in Atra, hoping for the whole time that the boy, whose name was Steve, would accept his invitation.
He did, Steve accepted his invitation and now he was there, in the suite next door.
Tony was strangely nervous, he was about to see his, well, husband, for the first time in years. His hands were sweaty and his knees were shaky. He finally found the courage to walk out of his room to Steve's and knocked on his door.
"Is that you, Tony?" Tony heard his voice and his heart almost skipped a beat.
"Uhm..yeah, yes"
"Come in"
Tony opened the door and walked into the room. No one was there yet. Tony sat on the bench near the bed and started playing with his fingers.
"Uhm, listen, I'm sorry I had to drag you into this"
"It's nothing" Steve replied from the bathroom.
"No, no it's not nothing. I dragged you out here against your will. If you don't want to stay here, just say so, I honk we can get an annulment or something"
"Tony," Steve said walking out of the bathroom "Tony stop"
Tony looked up from his hands, looking at Steve from feet to head, probably with a shocked expression on his face.
Steve was clearly just out of the shower, still very wet and dripping, topless with only a white, luxurious towel around his waist. Now, Steve was big. He was extremely tall, with broad shoulders and defined abs.
"Oh, I'm sorry Your Majesty, I shouldn't have called you Tony"
"Oh c'mon, you should have and you did, everything is fine"
Steve slightly smiled rubbing his hair with another towel.
"I never forgot you Tony, that day, our wedding day apparently, replays constantly in my mind"
Steve sat next to Tony. Tony shivered when their thighs touched.
"I...this is not.."
"How you imagined me?" Steve completed the sentence chuckling.
"Yeah"
Tony chuckles.
"It took me forever to find you, I can't believe you didn't give me your name"
"I can't believe I thought that that scribble on the paper was my actual name. Do you still have it?"
Tony nodded and took the piece of paper out of his pocket. Steve took it, their fingers brushed on each other's. He looked at it with a little smile on his lips, brushing his finger over the scribbles that were supposed to be their signatures.
"I guess I should properly introduce myself. I am Steve and I am your husband"
Steve stuck out his hand and Tony vigorously shook it.
"Nice to meet you husband, I'm Tony"
