Mike's POV
Just when I was about to get into my car I noticed Jeremy beginning to walk home. I didn't see any houses in the distance so I walked up to him, "Hey need a ride? It looks to me that you have a long walk."
"N-No it's fine, I-I really don't n-need one."
Looking him in the eye I said sternly, "You're getting a ride." The kid looked up at me in defeat.
"O-Ok."
We walked to my over to my car and got in. "So where do you live?"
"Lacie A-Ave SW"
I looked at Jeremy in surprise, "Wow, that's kind of far, I live on Jack Ave which is much closer.
Jeremy nodded. The rest of the ride was silent.

"Which house is it?"
"T-That one," Jeremy said pointing at one of the houses. I was an older house with a baige siding. I parked the car and he got out and waved goodbye. "T-Thanks for r-ride."
I smiled, "Anytime Kid." I made sure that he went inside the house, just before he did though a little boy with short brown hair opened the door and hugged him. Jeremy hugged the child back and went inside.
I drove away still smiling. That was a nice brother... well hopefully it was his brother.
I walked into my house happily hearing a girl's voice yell, "Welcome back!"
Jeremy's POV
Kevin hugged me while Mike drove away, I returned the hug and keeled down, "M-Miss me?"
"Yeah, I was lonely and Dad kept trying to get into our room. But I did what you said and locked the door." Kevin smiled triumphantly.
"Good job!" I said, thankful that he had listened to me. I walked inside the house and took off my hat that had 'Night Guard' written across it. Smirking I put it on Kevin's head and laughed at how big it was on him. He made a goofy face and giggled running up the stairs to our room. I chased after him laughing as well. I was about to run upstairs but the back of my shirt was grabbed, stopping me. I froze in fear knowing what was about to happen when I heard words with a drunken slur. Our father.
"WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU?!" He screamed throwing me at a wall on the other side of the room.
"A-At m-m-my new j-job," I sputtered coughing up blood in the process of making words. I felt a fist make contact with my hip as I stood up. Pain exploded from my side and I collapsed in pain. I let out a grunt of agony.
"Jeremy!" Kevin was staring at us in terror.
Our Father turned around, "GO BACK TO YOUR ROOM YOU BRAT!!!" He turned back to me as I was trying to get up again.
Smack
I put my hand to my hand up to my ear where it had been struck. My vision began getting fuzzy. Slowly I took my hand off my ear just to receive another blow to my ear. This one hurt much more. I looked up at Kevin still standing on the stairs.
"RUN," I yelled to him as I fell on the floor with a thump and everything went black.
Kevin's POV
I watched Jeremy crumple to the floor, then I did what he said and ran as fast as I could into our room and locked the door.
"OPEN THE DOOR YOU LITTLE SHIT," Our Father screeched banging on the door with his fist.
I backed away from the door, tears streaming down my face. I can't leave Jeremy down there by himself. I slid down the wall and hugged my knees to my chest. What should I do? I sobbed into my knees.

Everything finally settled down so I slowly unlocked the door and looked out. No one. I peered down the stairs, nothing but Jeremy's unconscious body on the floor. I walked out and checked our Fathers bedroom... No one. Glancing out the window at the drive way I noticed Dad's car was gone. He probably went to a bar.
I ran quickly down the stairs to Jeremy. I examined the side of his head. A dark bruise had formed... hopefully that ear could still function. Being careful, I lifted his shirt and stared at his back and side. Gasping, I ran and grabbed the medical supplies. Then I came back and took his shirt off. He had a long scrape across his back from when his was thrown at the wall. I put a good amount of neosporin over the gash as held him so he was sitting up. I wrapped bandages around him to stop the bleeding. His shirt that was sitting next to me had blood covering the back. Right, that's his work shirt that was giving to us by that man at the pizzeria. I picked it up and tossed it into the cloths washer hopeing the blood would come out since it was fresh. I walked back to were I have left Jeremy. Sighing, I tilted his head to the side so his bruised ear was facing up and set an ice pack over it. Then put another one on his side. There, all done.
Sitting on the couch I reached over and turned the radio on waiting for big bother to wake up. A tear fell from my eye.
Why does this happen?
[A/N: Yeah, I didn't feel like drawing at the moment so just picked a funny picture of Mike. Sorry that this chapter was really sad, just how Jeremy's life is.
Thanks for reading! \(^0^)/]
