Keith held the small petal gingerly, wondering how he could cough up a petal. He was actually kind of glad to have a distraction from Lance. Although he had no idea how he ate a petal. He tossed it in his lion's trash can that he brought in himself because he had needed one before.

He leaned back on his lions chair, sighed and closed his eyes and sat in silence for a moment. Keith wondered what Lance was doing right now... no, he had to stop thinking about that boy. Just because he spent a lot of time with him in the past meant nothing, they were rivals. That's it.
He felt the urge to cough again, pain rising in his chest.

He swallowed and tried not to cough, but his chest ached, throbbing at the same speed his heart did when he thought of Lance.
Keith wondered whether it was something he ate to make him like this, maybe he picked up some illness from this planet. Maybe he should ask Pidge about it... 'No, it'll pass' Keith told himself and reluctantly stood up, wobbling at first before walking out of his lion, forcing himself to hide whatever sickness he caught.

He went back to the gathering and pretended nothing happened, it shouldn't have bothered him either way, he'd seen Lance flirt with aliens more times than he could count so it shouldn't matter. And yet it did. It was eating him up inside, all the built up jealousy and hidden feelings he didn't know he had were bubbling up inside of him and he didn't know how to feel anymore.

Shiro walked to Keith and stood next to him, glancing down at him with concern in his eyes.
"What's wrong, Keith?" He asked after a moment of silence.
"Nothing. I'm perfectly fine." Keith looked at the ground and let out a huff.
"I can tell you're not, I've known you since you learned how to walk, you can talk to me. As a member of voltron and a dear friend- no, brother, your feelings matter," Shiro encouraged with a small smile.

Keith was silent.

He grabbed shiro's arm and let him away from the clearing, behind a tent and looked into Shiro's eyes.
"I think I messed up... I don't know what this feeling is and-and I'm... I'm scared, Shiro..." He burst out, his eyes instantly falling to the ground, he hates being so weak in front of others, even if it's Shiro. Shiro simply pulls him close and hugs him.
"It's ok, I'm here, what happened?" he murmurs gently and Keith hugs him back.
"How do I stop thinking about someone?" He asks after a moment.
"You can't,"

Keith was silent.

After Keith told Shiro about his feelings Shiro comforted him and gave him advice. But Keith knew he could never tell Lance about his emotions.
However Keith didn't know what was better, living a lie and hiding your emotions forever, or telling the one you fell for how much you don't actually hate them, at all, and getting left all alone again.
He decided the hurt of living without Lance was worse. So Keith would never tell Lance or anyone about this, other than Shiro who already knew.

Soon the paladins of Voltron left the planet and headed off into the unknown, yet again and were planning their next stop.
"I say we go to a planet with nice people and good food!" Hunk spoke up from the clamor of voices.
"No way, I say we find a planet that can help us in the war," Allura replied calmly and began looking around at planets.
"I think it would be cool to find a planet with super tech! Imagine what we could learn!" Pidge said excitedly and scanned some notes, though half the notes were scribbles of comics and random doodles.
"Learning is for nerds! Let's go to a beach planet and chill!" Lance said with a smooth smile.
Keith simply sat back and listened, he didn't really have a preference and enjoyed times like this. Not that he'd admit that.

"Keith? Keithhhhh! Keeeeeiiiiiithtthhhhhhh!" Pidge poked him and he almost fell off his chair.
"Hey! What's the big idea!" He glared at Pidge and she smirked.
"Who were you thinking about?" She asked slyly.
"Ooo! I want in! Who does Keith like?" Lance piped in and jumped into a chair next to him.
"No one! I don't know where that idea came from," he corrected pointedly.
"Hmmm... sureeee, you totally didn't have a lovesick look on your face," Pidge retorted with a laugh.
"Wha- I did not have that look on my face! I always look cool," he responded and folded his arms, he heard Lance chuckle next to him.
A familiar feeling rose in this throat, a bad feeling.
"Yeah, usually you look cool! But just then you looked like a man in loovvveeeee!" He teased with another laugh, Pidge joining in. Keith tried to ignore them for a moment, noticing Shiro smile at him knowingly before turning back to Allura, discussing the next stop for voltron.
Keith felt something rise from his chest, he swallowed it down but it came back more angrily this time.

He let out a constricted grumble before standing up.
"If all you're gonna do is annoy me then I'm leaving, let me know when we get to the next planet," he muttered as he left the room, trying to sound natural.

Lance called him cool. No, stop thinking about him.
Lance said it with his own beautiful mouth, that Keith was cool (usually but we won't mention that). Keith refused to acknowledge this properly because he wasn't supposed to get caught up on things like this. Lance would hate him forever if he found out, even though Lance flirts with aliens of any gender Keith knows he wouldn't want anything serious with a human like Keith. He let out a small cough, before more followed mercilessly.

A pain rose in his lungs like a flickering fire, it's flames lapping at his throat and heart. What is this? Keith went to his room and drank some water but it didn't stop another series of coughs. He sat on his bed and rubbed his temples with his fingers. He begged it to stop in his mind, but to no avail.
He walked to his wardrobe that was on the wall next to his personal bathroom, his bed was in the middle of the back wall, opposite the door. His room was fairly clean and he didn't have any visible mess.

Keith felt his stomach churn, something rising in his throat before begging to come out. He coughed again, and again and after a few coughs he hurled up another petal. Was this the third one now? What was with these, maybe he should see Pidge...

Keith tried to ignore it and acted out his normal nightly routine. After he finished brushing his teeth, erasing any traces of blue petals that could've been stuck, Keith was beginning to feel tired. It had been a long few days, once he lay in bed he stared at the roof, a cold feeling made him shiver. He was alone in his mess called emotions. Almost as alone as he was in his room. He fell into a mellow sleep hoping to have a dreamless night, but he dreamed of Lance.
