Food was already waiting for the two of them, the fire elementals having cooked them up. Avaro having a good look at himself once again, pinpointing the little scratches and cuts, bruises more visable now. Hard to miss a dark purple splotch amiss a sea of white. Between the two, the bruises hurt a lot more.
It was fairly early in the morning. The sun glowing lowly on the horizon, casting its light through the trees as the sky brightened. A mix of dark and light colors as the stars lights started to fade. A brighter competitor drowning them.
Avaro's wings itched to be there. High in air on the cool morning breeze, becoming one with the multi-colored sky. Watching the quick transformation from black to light blue. Despite it happening practically twice per day, he always enjoyed watching it. It looked even better if there were some clouds out. The grey white fluffy sheets turning a into series of colors like pink, orange, and yellow. But today was a clear day, promising nothing but sunlight. Not even a hint of rain in the air.
Avaro shook his wings and pulled them closer to himself, he had to eat first before doing anything. Sadly by then the sky would be mostly if not completely light blue. Maybe tonight he could fly as the sun set.
Avaro took his meal, evenly and well cooked, but unseasoned. He rather have had it raw, but at least it was juicy.
He ignored those around him, his mood sour from the rude awakening, stinging pains, and lack of a flight. Avaro could tell Lucerne knew this as well, the celestial seemed to always take the conversation and avoid anything that directly involve Avaro. He was grateful for that. Avaro couldn't tell how long he would last if everyone started pestering about his wounds and travels. Though he would still have to explain eventually, now was simply not the time. Once finished, Avaro left to bury the remains of his meal in a ready made hole. Prepared by the earth elementals so he wouldn't have to get his hands dirty. After that Avaro headed over to his friend. Despite all the times Avaro has taken to the skies. Only twice has he ever spent that time with Lucerne.
He remembered asking the celestial to join him, waking him up, and enjoying the flight. It was much more fun with someone as oppose to being alone. The two of them rolling, flipping, and diving in the air. Trying out tricks and nearly knocking each other out of the sky more than once. It was fun, but it was the night that bothered him, both resulting in quite similar events.
Avaro stirred in his sleep, something seemed to bother him, prodding at him to wake up and investigate. He hated nights like these, but they always had a reason. In this case, it was a nightmare.
In the silence Avaro could head the quiet sobs of someone nearby. He looked over, Lucerne still in his bed, but noticably shaking in his sleep. Quietly, he got up and made his way over to his friend, concerned. This wasn't the first time it's happened, last time Avaro had woke him up for a flight that very morning. Nightmares happen, Lucerne had his fair share and so has Avaro. But not like this, it was never as bad as this.
Even in the darkness, the light from Lucerne's glowing hair and specks was enough light. Avaro saw his face twisted in anguish even while fast asleep, shaking as he mumbled. "Please...Dont go..."
"Psst, Lucerne, wake up," Avaro whispered, slightly shaking the celestial. His friend stiffened with a sob, trying to curl up. Avaro shook a little harder. "Come on Lucerne, it's just a nightmare, none of its real," he said a bit louder. Lucerne stirred, his eyes flickering as the nightmare started fading away, freeing him from its entrapping claws.
"Hhh..?" He whined, blinking tears out of his eyes and looking up. "Avaro?"
"Yeah it's me, you were having a nightmare. You alright?"
Lucerne stared at him for a long moment, tears swimming in his glowing white eyes as he sat up. Avaro expected this, it happened once before. He opened his arms, letting his friend hug and sob into his shoulder. He would sit like that for the next five minutes. Patting Lucerne's back and trying to soothe him. After that he would thank Avaro and head to bed. Refusing to give any details on the dream. Avaro couldn't blame him, he couldn't bare reliving his own nightmares verbally, not after last time he did. The bullying that pursued was enough to worsen his nightmares and even prevent him from telling his parents anything. Not wanting to risk some sneak in the back evesdropping.
But after that, Avaro refused to wake Lucerne up in the mornings for flights. He would simply have another flight later on when his friend was awake on his own accord.
