Avaro yawned as he felt the world slowly come back to him. Warm fur all around, heat radiating from a nearby source. He was the first awake. Early morning, around seven AM. His schedule has returned.
Avaro stayed where he was, yawning again. He wondered how long it would take for Lucerne to wake up. Usually back in OCTown, he would wake up in the next hour or two. Sometimes even later. Avaro was somewhat okay with laying there for another hour. But wasn't too sure. He wanted to be there if anything were to happen, then again, it was early morning. Most cats are still asleep. Nothing would really happen.
He stayed there, feeling bored. Not wanting to wake anyone, but also not wanting to be stuck in one spot for anywhere between one and four hours.
To have something to do, Avaro decided to dive back into his memories, rethink his encounter with Sunset, the wall, and Cinder. Trying to see if theres a detail hidden in his memory. There wasn't. He didn't exactly have photographic memory.
Defeated, he decided to ease some stress for the time being. Going back to a day he'd caught Lucerne late at night on OCTown's roof. Gazing at the stars.
Avaro slowly opened his eyes, feeling cold and alone as the wound on his face still stung slightly. It's only been a week since he'd gotten to this odd place. He already missed his parents. His home.
"This is my home now..." he told himself.
Rolling over, Avaro noticed his friend's bed was empty. The usual glowing hair gone from its pillow.
His chest hollowed out. Maybe Lucerne was too uncomfortable and decided to sleep elsewhere. The thought made Avaro's eyes water. He's never slept in a room all by himself. As a kid he was with his parents, as an adult he was with Lucerne. No wonder he felt cold and alone.
Avaro slid out of bed, shivering. Maybe he could find that robot and ask her where Lucerne went. At least know that he's alright.
He silently left his room, looking down both ends of the hallway before heading off, hopefully in the direction that would lead to the main room.
After a bit of walking the hallway split. Again, Avaro followed his gut and turned once more. Luckily, he'd taken the right path. The familiar giant room opened up ahead of him, dull and empty. Lucerne wasn't asleep on the couch. "Duh, he probably got his own room, too late now," he thought, glancing back at the hallway.
Taking a deep breath he continued on exploring, catching a clock.
2:41am
It really was late.
"Why are you roaming around this late at night? Do you want to get lost?" A voice snapped, making Avaro yelp and turn around.
There she was, the robot cat. He didn't really like her, too snappy.
"I was just looking for Lucerne, he wasn't in bed," Avaro replied with a frown.
"Of course not," Roxxan hissed, "He's on the roof,"
"The roof??"
"Yeah,"
"Why?"
"Hell if I know, go ask him yourself," the cat huffed, opening a portal for the dragon. Avaro hesitated, but quickly slipped through, worried on why his friend was out there.
The roof was freezing cold, just like the air, but it wasn't enough for snow.
There, not to far off was a blue figure, laying on the cold tiles.
"Lucerne?!"
The figure moved and quickly sat up.
"Avaro! How did you get up here?" Lucerne questioned, baffled.
Avaro didn't answer as he hurried over to his friend, dropping to his knees.
"What are you doing out here?" He asked instead. "It's freezing!"
"It's not that cold..."
"I was worried you left,"
"Oh, I-I'm sorry," Lucerne apologized, frowning.
"It's alright... At least you're okay," Avaro replied with a sigh.
"I just wanted to see the stars, they're much different than back at home," his friend explained, looking back up at the sky.
"The stars?" Avaro looked up ad well, many unfamiliar twinkling stars gazed back, two crescent moons glittering too.
"Huh... They are differnet... How long have you been out here?" He asked.
"I dunno, awhile," the celestial answered as he slowly laid back down.
Avaro hesitated for a moment, then went ahead to lay down next to him. Surpressing a violent shiver as his wings made contact to the cold rooftop.
"The moons wont be fully shaded for awhile, this is the darkest night I can get without waiting a month or more," Lucerne continued, his voice brimming with passion.
Avaro felt an odd twang in his chest, he didn't exactly know where it came from or why. It was sudden and quick to leave. Maybe it really wasn't that cold outside.
"What's the brightest star you've spotted so far?" He decided to ask.
Lucerne seemed overjoyed to answer as he quickly pointed to the sky. "That one, it has a blue ring around it, I am certain it has a solar system around it too," he said, the tone in voice making Avaro break out a smile. Even if he had no idea what star his friend just pointed to.
Lucerne continued talking all about the stars he'd spotted that stood out from the rest. Most of it Avaro couldn't understand, but the passion and joy in his friend's voice made him listen. Made him ask more questions and seek more details. The hole in his chest was filled now, warm and comforting.
It wasnt really that cold outside after all.
