Chapter 7: The inevitable day

Maria's POV

My hands moves quickly to finish the last answer on my test. 

"Finally.", I whisper as I put together my test and answer sheet. 

I'm done. Finally done with high school. I have no idea how the others in my family went through this hell so many times.

It's June 3rd, also known as the last day of school. The school year went by incredibly fast. But right now, there's only one thing on my mind. My college acceptance letters. If I got any. I applied to only two colleges...I know...that's stupid. But oh well. They were the only colleges that I actually had my eye on. Harvard and Yale.

I walk out of my class with a smile on my face and go to my teacher to give him my test paper. 

"Oh, Maria. These came in the mail for you. The office told me to give it to you right now.", he tells me and hands me two thick envelopes.

Oh my gosh! My letters!

"Thank you so much!", I say,"Have a great summer, Mr. Riley."

He gives me a smile,"You too."

I walk out of the door looking and holding my envelopes as if they were made out of gold. But I still don't read it. I'm way to scared. And freaking out to do that. Would I have actually gotten in? Yeah, I had a 4.0 GPA , but I barely did any extra curricular activities. 

"You know it won't just open by staring at it?"

I turn around to see Alec staring at me with a smirk. 

"Oh hey!", I greet him with a hug,"And I know. No vampire has that power. I'm just afraid to open it."

"College letters?", he asks.

I nodd,"What if I didn't get in?"

"Only one way to find out.", he nods at my letters,"C'mon. You're smart and you know it."

"But what if it's not enough?", I ask.

"Then those colleges have no idea what's they're missing out on.", he says with a grin,"Let's open it with your friends. It's the last day of school, I'm sure they want to see you."

I smile, grab his hand and we walk towards the cafeteria. 

Alec has been here for the entire school year. He says that they caught the alleged vampire who broke all of those laws. And I was happy that everyone was safe. But...he has to go back to the Volturi. He didn't tell me any of this, but it's common sense. As soon as they're done with a mission, they go back to Italy.

"Are you alright?", he asks, pulling me back into reality, with concern in his eyes.

"Yeah.", I assure,"Just nervous to find out whether I got in or not."

He frowns,"There's something else...Maria wha-"

"Hey guys!", I hear Jessie call from across the cafeteria,"Over here!!"

We both walk over there and Jessie and Emma make room for us.

"Well", Emma says,"Did you get in?"
