Chapter 10: An announcement

Maria's POV

It's night and Carlisle called everyone to the living room. Including Bella and Edward, even though they don't live with us anymore. 

I'm slowly walking around my room, thinking about how to say this. Even if I didn't say anything, they'd figure it out eventually. My stomach is already a few inches bigger than before. I was in denial about that before. Thought it was all in my head because it's impossible for hybrids to either lose or gain weight.

Hesitantly, I walk downstairs and see them all talking to eachother. 

"Umm, before I start.", I say quickly,"I really have to ask Edward not to read my mind. It's...it's just that I need to say this myself."

They all look at Edward, who just nods and urges me to continue.

"You've all been an absolutely amazing family. And you've always been there for me. But...I've done something that I'm not ashamed of...but I know for a fact that you will hate me.", I say.

"What?", Rosalie laughs,"We'd never hate you no matter what you did."

I close my eyes and take a deep sigh,"...I'm pregnant."

The room is silent. No one says anything for several seconds.

"....Why would we hate you for that?", she asks.

"B-because of who the father is.", I whisper.

Edward's eyes go wide,"You didn't..."

"Edward!", I shout,"You said you wouldn't read my mind! I needed you tell you myself!"

"But with him?!", he immediately gets up,"No! You're right! We're pissed! At least I fucking am! How could you do this to us??"

Everyone else looks on in horror.

"...Because I love him.", I say between gritted teeth,"And there's nothing you can do that will change that."

"Will someone please tell us who the father is??", Bella says quickly.

Edward looks at me with a piercing glare, waiting for me to respond.

And I do.

"...Alec.", I whisper.

The room is silent again.

"Why on EARTH would you sleep with someone who almost killed us? Twice!", Edward asks loudly.

"I love him!", I shout,"I will never stop loving him! No matter what you say or do to me! He's my other half! He loves me! More than anyone ever has...he's different than the others."

"If he loves you so much, then why did he leave?", Edward asks.

"To keep me safe.", I say a little more softly. Everyone gets quiet again,"If he stayed, the Volturi would have done anything to get him back."

"She's telling the truth.", Carlisle gets up to my defense,"It's what happened to Marcus and his mate. Aro killed his own sister to keep Marcus in the Volturi."

"...I'm sorry that I betrayed you.", I tell them,"But I really do love him. And he loves me."

"Will he be here?", Bella asks,"What I mean is...does he know?"
