Hated Love (Alec Volturi Love Story)

Chp 18: Jane

Maria's POV

Elizabeth ran over to us and into my arms. I quickly pick her up and craddle her in my arms in an extremely protective manner.

Alec puts an arm on my shoulder to calm me down, looking me in the eyes to tell me that it was ok for her to be here.

But I can't exactly help, but be a little taken aback when Jane, a high ranking member of the Volturi guard, just shows up at the Cullens' house without any kind of warning.

Jane puts up her arm as if to calm us all,"Do not worry. I have no intention on hurting either you or Elizabeth."

Unsure of this, I just hold on to Elizabeth even tighter against me. 

Jane obviously realizes my hestiation and rolls her eyes and walks up to Alec. 

"Alec. I need to speak to you alone. Right now.", she says with concern and urgency in her voice. 

He narrows his eyebrows and walks outside with his sister.

"Mommy, why are you so scared of Auntie Jane?", Elizabeth asks as soon as I put her back down.

Auntie Jane? Well...I guess that's ok.

"What, no.", I say quickly,"I'm not afraid of her. I was just....taken aback to see her here because I didn't even know that she'd be coming." 

I look at the others who looked just as flustered as I did.

"When did she come?", I ask them.

"About twenty minutes ago. Said that there was some emergency.", Rosalie said.

"What emergency?", I take a small step back.

"She wouldn't tell us. And Edward was with Jacob and the others so he wasn't able to help us. But she said that Alec had to be the first to know.", Rosalie looks away, obviously just as frustrated as everyone else in the room.

I take a deep breath and try to collect myself as I look over and watch Elizabeth and Renesmee playing in the corner.

Right now, the only thing I can do is hope that the emergency isn't as bad as it sounds. 

But of course, my hope is shattered as soon as I see Alec and Jane come back in the house with weary expressions.

Alec grabs my wrist and pulls me upstairs, barely giving me anytime to realize what he's doing or why.

"Alec!", I yell,"Will you let go for one second and just tell me what the hell is going on?!"

He sits me down on the bed and looks at me for a few, long seconds before talking.

"They're here.", he says so quietly that I can barely hear.

My eyes grow huge and if feels as if there is something lodged my throat that is rendering me speechless.

"Jane came with them.", he continues,"She ran off to warn us. But they're here. In Forks."

"Oh my god.", I whisper,"Oh my god, what do we do? If they're here, then why didn't they already attack."

"Because.", he took a deep breath,"They knew that we would all be here and they wouldn't stand a chance."

"So what do we do?", I demand, growing impatient.

"You, Jane, and Elizabeth need to get the hell out of here.", he tells me in a succinct manner.

"What?! No!", I stand up,"We can't be separated again Alec! Elizabeth needs both of us. Not just one."

"Shh. Calm down, Maria.", Alec looks me in the eye,"I'll meet you in a day or two tops. Jane will keep you safe. She won't hurt you. I promise."

I look at him unconvincingly.

"Please, Maria.", Alec softly says,"We need to do this to keep her safe."

"I know this will help, but there has to be another way. I don't know. It's just that I have a gut feeling that something terrible will happen if we go alone.", I plead.

"You have to trust me.", Alec says,"I've been with them for over a thousand years. I know all of their strategies. Please, Maria. Just....trust me, will you?"

I look down and take slow, deep breaths.

"Ok.", I finally say,"Alright, I'll go. When?"

"Now.", Alec rushes over to the cabinet and gets a small bag and puts in a my cellphone and papers that he pulled out of his closet. 

He sees my distress and walks over to pull me into a deep kiss.

"You need to calm down, love. It will be ok. I promise.", he says.

But honestly. 

No one has really kept their promises lately.
