Castiel's POV

Castiel woke up to the smell of bacon on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning. He hopped out of bed and sauntered downstairs to the kitchen.

His mom was at the stove, she seemed happier than usual. 'I guess she's finally taking her meds' Castiel thought to himself as he took a seat at the table.

"Hi sweetie," Mrs. Novak smiled as she placed a soft kiss to the topic her son's head. "I made you pancakes and bacon."

"Thank you mother." Castiel said. His mother laughed at how formal her son was, he definitely got that from his father.

Castiel ate his food and went into the living room to watch cartoons. He heard his mother doing the dishes and then coming in to join him. She pulled him onto her lap and he squirmed.

"Mom I'm twelve years old I'm too big to sit in your lap!" Castiel whined.

He didn't notice that his mother was saddened by this because he was too entranced in the shit that Timmy Turner just got himself into.

"Okay sweetie," his mother sighed, putting her arm around him. "Do you know how much I love you?"

"What?" Castiel gave her a quizzical look, tilting his head to the side like a confused puppy, earning a soft laugh from Mrs. Novak.

"I love you more than anything in the whole wide world," she began. "Even though sometimes I look like I'm sad, and I don't respond, I still love you. You mean the world to me, do you know that?"

"Yes mom, I know," Castiel said. "Now can I watch my cartoons?"

Mrs. Novak gave him a weak smile and nodded. She got up off of the couch and walked upstairs. Castiel heard her start running a bath so Castiel turned the volume on the tv up higher to drown out the sound of running water.

After about two hours of Avatar the Last Airbender, SpongeBob came on so Castiel turned the tv off. He didn't like SpongeBob because there wasn't a real storyline. The characters have an issue, they solve it, and the next episode is completely unrelated from the last. He didn't understand most of the jokes anyways. He couldn't see what people liked about that show.

Castiel suddenly realizes that he's bored so he looks around for his mom. He walks aimlessly down the halls of his home calling out to her.

"Mom?" He popped his head into the kitchen. "Mother?" He went up the stairs and looked into his mother's bedroom. There were various keys and envelopes sitting on her bed with different names on them. Castiel spotted one with his name on it and another with his aunt's name.

"Mom?" Castiel shouted again. He then remembered that she was going to take a bath.

Castiel walked into the bathroom and instantly felt his heart sink in his chest. His mother's lifeless body was floating in the tub.

"MOM?!?!" Castiel was screaming and he could feel his heart beating in his throat. "MOM NO PLEASE. MOM PLEASE. WAKE UP MOM. PLEASE JUST WAKE UP."

Castiel sat screaming for maybe ten minutes before the neighbors called the police. All he could think about as a police officer guided him out of the house was how he had treated her. 'No mom I'm too big to sit in your lap.' 'Can I watch my cartoons now?'. These words haunted Castiel as he sat through the drive to the police station, which took what felt like an eternity to him.
