Castiel's POV

The bell rang signaling that all students should be in their third period classrooms.

Castiel walked into the art room. He scanned the room and found a nice, secluded seat in the corner. He set down his things and looked around at his peers. He recognized a couple faces from the halls, and then his heart stopped. Sitting at the opposite side of the room was Dean Winchester.

Castiel looked away in hopes that the older boy wouldn't notice that he was just staring. He quickly glanced back over only to have his eyes lock with those shiny green ones. For maybe a full minute the two of them seemed to be frozen in time, staring at each other with no end.

"Okay class, today we will be learning about the color wheel." The art teacher, Mrs. Milton stated, earning a collective groan from the group of students.

Castiel decided to distract himself from Dean with the one thing that he knew he was good at: art. He listened tentatively to the instructions the teacher gave them, and began to mix the blues and reds, yellows and greens, and really began to enjoy himself when his thoughts of paints and pastels were interrupted by the sudden feeling that he was being watched.

Castiel looked up from his work and noticed a certain jock looking his way, which caused Dean to turn a bright red as soon as Castiel spotted him. Castiel couldn't help but smile at the thought of the older boy being embarrassed but he continued to do his work, feeling the pair of eyes glancing over every once in a while.

But he let Dean stare. He let him think that he was getting by unnoticed. He liked the attention but he couldn't help but wonder why. Why the most popular and, well, attractive, guy in this school would be staring at some new underclass men who bumped into him in the hallway.

Unless he was staring because he was trying to figure out which part of Castiel's face to pound in first or how many football players it would take to throw him into a dumpster.

Castiel decided to let these thoughts fade away as he painted.

Dean's POV

Okay so it's just one class. One class that Dean had to get through with this Castiel kid. As soon as Dean stepped into the classroom he saw the tan trench coat in the back corner of the class. So, naturally, he sat in the farthest possible seat from there. Sure it was a bit grade school to avoid somebody like this but Dean couldn't help but get butterflies every time he looked over at the blue eyed boy.

"Shit" Dean muttered under his breathe as his eyes met Castiel's. 'Nice going Winchester' he thought to himself. Even though Castiel had just caught him red handed staring, Dean couldn't help but glance over every couple minutes.

He hadn't gotten this good a look at the kid since they met. He hadn't even noticed his sex hair. Yes, sex hair. There really was no other way to put it. It stuck out in all different directions. In a way it was perfectly imperfect. So Dean kept staring, becoming quite entranced in the younger boy's looks.

Dean started to become quite proud of himself due to the fact that Castiel hadn't noticed his staring. He must be getting pretty damn good at it.

He tried to get back to work and started mixing paints but all he did was create a brownish goop. Okay so maybe art wasn't his best subject but it was an easy A and Dean could use at least one of those on his report card.

The class was concluded with the ringing of the bell and everybody was off to lunch. Dean was particularly excited about today's lunch, it was pie day in the cafeteria.

He decided to forget about Castiel for now and he went and sat with his friends at their usual table.

Castiel's POV

After art, Castiel walked to his locker, only to be greeted by Gabriel with a chocolate bar in one hand and a bagged lunch in the other.

"Ready for lunch Cassie?" Gabe asked through a mouth full of chocolate.

Castiel nodded and they walked out the school doors and across the courtyard to a big oak tree in the center where a small group of students were already gathered.

"Hey Gabe who's this?" A red head wearing a doctor who shirt asked.

"This is Cassie and he's my new best friend." Gabriel shouted out so that the whole courtyard could hear.

"It's Castiel." Castiel said flatly, causing the group to change their expressions from cheerful to shocked at how serious the new kid sounded.

"Jeez what's up with him?" A blonde said before taking a bite of a turkey sandwich, dropping mustard on her lap but not caring.

"Cassie here was born with a stick up his butt, quite the medical mystery, doctors were completely baffled, so don't mind him if he's a little bit too serious." Gabriel smirked as he put an arm around Castiel, only for him to squirm under Gabriel's touch.

"Okay well my name is Charlie," the red head said. "Over here is Jo," she said as she pointed to the blonde.

Charlie then proceeded to introduce Castiel to a scrawny boy in a baseball cap named Garth, a blonde named Meg who kept giving Castiel flirty eyes, and a boy with long hair named Sam, who Castiel assumed was the brother of Dean.

"Okay now that we all know each other let's eat, I'm starved!" Garth shouted as he opened a bag of chips.

Castiel sat down and watched the others engage in conversations as he quietly ate his peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

"So you're new huh?" Castiel looked up to see Sam munching on a salad and looking at him, waiting for an answer.

"Oh, um, yes." Castiel replied.

"So where are you from, Castiel is it?"

"Yes that is correct," Castiel wasn't very good at this. "I'm originally from Pontiac, Illinois but my aunt decided it was time for a change so we left."

Sam nodded and kept eating. Castiel couldn't help but reminisce of the days in Pontiac, before the accident... he felt himself getting teary eyed so he pretended to yawn so he could use that as an excuse.

Castiel sat and finished his lunch, and enjoyed the presence of the new faces that surrounded him.
