The day after that, Sugawara promised himself to confess to the dark haired captain.
He made it his absolute priority, making sure nothing came in between.
Nothing except...himself.'Why am I such a damn coward?' Sugawara let out a deep sigh, having a depressing aura emanating out of him. All of his teammates and coaches looked at him with both concern, and perplexity, wondering what got the usually cheery boy so down during practice.
'Damn, the worse he could do is reject me! He's not the type to unfriend me because of some silly confession.' He tried to reassure himself but, it wasn't working.Sugawara's mental image:
"Daichi...I LOVE YOU!"
"..."
"Daichi?"
"How disgusting. How could I be friends with someone like you now?"
Sugawara groaned, kneeling onto the floor just picturing this.
It wasn't something that was actually going to happen but, how would Koushi know that? He only thought the worst of this situation despite being the one to always cheer his teammates up."Suga-san...are you okay?" Nishinoya bent down, becoming leveled with the agitated silver haired boy. All of his teammates remembered how much Sugawara helped them out so, it's now their time to help.
"I'm~fine...~" Koushi groaned, obviously not 'fine'. Even idiots like Kageyama and Hinata could tell. Everyone kind of just awkwardly surrounded Sugawara, wondering what was going on with him.
Daichi walked into the gym, puzzled on why the volleyball team was surrounding all around something."Hey what's going on here-" Daichi asked before seeing Sugawara huddled up on the ground, holding his knees.
"Suga?! What's wrong?" He frantically rushed over to the silver haired boy, with a concerned tone in his voice because he thought Koushi had gotten hurt or something.
But Sawamura was the last person he wanted to see right now."Heh! I'm a-okay!" Sugawara suddenly sprang up, startling everyone because of his sudden mood swing. One moment he was depressed on the ground, and in the next moment, it's like his team had just won a game.
"Sugawara..you're really concerning us." Asahi wearily stuck his hand out, speaking up for everyone on the team staring at Sugawara with befuddlement.
"Ashley- Asahi, I'm fine!" Sugawara gave them all a thumbs up, 'accidentally' calling the third-year ace 'Ashley' again.
"Hey, why are you all standing around? Practice started!" He chastised all of the boys whose heads couldn't even process Koushi's mood swings that quick. Including Tsukishima.
They all kind of just seperated with their heads in a daze, going on with their practice. It looked they had it up to here with the silver haired boy."Uh Suga...are you really okay?" Daichi asked, being the only one who didn't move away from the anxious Koushi.
Sugawara had totally forgotten Sawamura was standing there, so it gave him a jolt."Ye- Yes! I'm fine." Sugawara waved Daichi away, hearing his heart beating like drums. He still had to profess his love for the dark haired captain.
That certainly hadn't slipped his mind. "C'mon, practice time. Let's go!" He smiled, trotting over to the rest of his teammates.'He's acting so strange. Maybe he's seeing someone?' Daichi scratched his head.
He felt a slight stab in his chest out of the blue, and a wave of anger and what seems like jealousy?
'Why do I feel like this?'As practice went on, everyone continued on like nothing happened. Especially Sugawara, who was setting to everyone along with Kageyama.
Strangely, the one distracted during practice was Daichi.
He was thinking about Michimiya's confession but, a huge part of his mind was contemplating on whether Koushi had a significant other or not.
Well, if he had a boyfriend or not.In their second years of high school, Sugawara had suddenly discussed one of his biggest secrets with the dark haired captain.
It was the fact that the silver haired boy was gay.Daichi could remember how nervous and fidgety Sugawara was but, his nerves eventually calmed down once Sawamura told him that he accepted him the way he was.
Koushi was bursting out tears of joy, happy that the dark haired captain wouldn't unfriend him for being different.
After all, he was still Koushi Sugawara.
Nothing had changed.
He was still his best friend.Though...what happens if neither of them see each other as best friends?
But more than friends?---
'I gotta find Daichi. I have to confess.' Sugawara frantically paced back and forth near the changing buildings. They had just got done with practice but, Sawamura disappeared off to somewhere.
'Jeez, where is he?'"Hey, hold on-" The sound of Daichi's voice made Sugawara's ears perk up. It sounded like it was coming from around the building.
'Okay, okay. I can do this.' Sugawara gave himself more confidence because his levels were currently at zero.
He rounded the corner, just planning to casually walk up to Daichi and confess his feelings. That was until he heard another voice besides Sawamura's.
And when he saw what those two were doing...
He felt something snap within him. There was Michimiya and Daichi.
Making out with each other.Sugawara felt like someone had just shot an arrow through his chest, having the arrow pierce a vital part of his heart that made it stop.
He just stood there in disbelief with some kind of murderous glare in his eyes.
Then he came to his senses and realized...He was too late.
It wasn't even her fault. It was his.
He waited too long.
Someone had already gotten to Daichi's heart before he could.Sugawara left before they could catch him staring as he ran in the dead silent night.
Then an urge struck inside him.'Fuck it.'
