Christina's POV:
Christmas break is officially over! time to face Derek in person. I feel so horrible but I had to do what I had to do.
"Hey guys!" I say as I see Kiara, Elysa, and Derek by my locker. I open my locker and put some books in and take some out.
"Hey!" Kiara and Elysa say simultaneously. Derek just smiles. I really hope he's not upset with me. I feel horrible about what I did to him.
"So what have you guys been up to? I haven't really seen you since Christmas Eve!" I asked. The time really flew.
"Nothing really. I was home most of the time." Elysa responds flatly.
"Same." Kiara agrees.
"Me too, pretty much. What about you Derek?" I ask with hope. He seems almost shy to talk to me now and I hate it. I didn't want our friendship to change, I loved our friendship.
"Oh nothing really. I went skiing with my cousins but that's about it." He responded with a slight smile.
"That's cool!" I say, trying to lighten things up. Suddenly I notice this girl I've never seen before walk down the hall. She was about my height, she had long brown hair, greenish eyes, glasses, and subtle freckles. She was pretty. I wonder who she is?
"Who's the new girl?" Elysa asks, almost as if reading my mind.
"I don't know." Kiara answers.
"I'm not sure either but I'm gonna find out!" Derek says and I immediately grow jealous. Wait, why am I getting jealous? I'm the one who broke up with Derek for Mike after like an hour. Why do I feel like this?
"Hi, um excuse me but do you know where locker 156 is? Oh sorry, I'm Natalie by the way. I'm new!" The new girl, who's name is apparently Natalie. She seems nice.
"Oh hi, uh actually it's right over here." I say as I point to her locker. "I'm Christina, by the way, and this is Kiara, Elysa, and Derek!" I add while gesturing to he three of them.
"Hey!" Elysa and Kiara, again speak simultaneously. I still don't get how they do that.
"Hey, what school are you from?" Derek asks, immediately turning his charm on. I can't help but feel a pang of anger in my chest. I guess e couldn't have liked me that much if he's already flirting with her.
"Oh, I'm from Gates Academy, it's in in South Carolina. I just moved her to New York from there." Natalie explains with a smile.
"That's really cool! We normally don't really get students from places far like that, well besides Derek. He's from California." I explain to her and she nods in understanding.
"Yep. I like it better here though. I can actually see snow!" Derek says goofily charming which obviously grabs her attention. She looks at him with such awe that I almost feel..hurt? Ahh what am I doing? If Derek wants me to be happy I should at least try to be happy for him.
"So anyways what classes are you in?" Elysa asks. We all have the same classes this semester. It's really good for us but also bad because I guarantee you that there will be zero learning going on with us 6, maybe now 7 goofballs in one class.
"Umm, here. This is the schedule." Natalie says and hands the schedule to us. Just as I presumed, she's in all of our classes too.
"Well, you're in all of our classes. So we might as well just all walk to them together!" Kiara says and Natalie smiles. I'm happy we made a new friend, no matter how jealous I am, it's nice to have a change.
"So our first class is English so we're probably not going to do much anyway. Just talk to each other to catch up. The usual for the first day back from break." I explain and she nods in understanding. I can't help but notice how Derek looks at her. It's how he used to look at me. In awe I guess? Oh man.
"So class, we have a new student. Her name is Natalie and I expect you all to be welcoming to her. She's just imbed here from South Carolina." Our teacher Mrs. Thompson explains. "Feel free to talk amongst yourselves."
"So Natalie, I'm sure your boyfriend is missing you a lot back in South Carolina." Derek says and smirks at me. But it wasn't a nice smirk. It was more of a 'Two can play at this game' smirk. Ugh!
"Oh, I don't have a boyfriend.." Natalie replies with a blush.
"Really? I would've definitely thought a cute girl like you would be taken." Derek says with his charmer obviously full on. Oh how I want to punch this boy right now.
"Haha thanks." Natalie blushes and looks down.
"Christina and Derek, will you two please drop this letter off at the office for me?" Mrs. Thompson asks.
"Sure thing." I say and pull Derek up before he can object.
As we're out the door I immediately start talking. "What the hell was that?!" I say, not realizing how jealous I actually sound.
"What are you talking about?" Derek asks, confused.
"That flirting or whatever thy was with Natalie!" I scream in a whisper.
"It was exactly that. I was flirting. She's cute and I also now know that she's single so I will continue to flirt. Why is there a problem?" Derek asks with a challenging smirk.
"Um, nope not at all! Why would there be a problem?" I reply nervously and he can definitely tell. Derek almost knows me more than anyone.
"Then what's bothering you, because I know you and you're definitely not fine right now." Derek says simply as if he knew all along.
"Um nothings wrong." I lie and he knows again.
"Christina. Just tell me. You know I'll find out anyway." Derek argues and I feel like I'm gonna melt into my shoes.
"Fine. I guess I'm just a tiny, tiny, teeny bit jealous." I give in. There's not point in trying to lie.
"But why? You have Mike." Derek asks, almost bitterly but still caring.
"I don't know. I guess it just reminds me of how you used to act with me?" I really don't know why I am jealous.
"Oh..I don't really know what to say." he replies and I shrug.
"There isn't anything you have to say. I'm obviously not going to hold you back from being anything with Natalie. You were generous enough to let me be happy so I think it's not fair if I'm the same." I explain and he nods.
"Okay, let's get back to class." Derek replies and we walk back together. At least I don't have to hide anything from him.
