Midsummers

This morning felt like a blur. I had a nightmare about my ex hitting me and I woke up crying. This is a thing that happens occasionally but not very often. I woke up and walked into the kitchen for a cup of coffee.

"Hey buddy, I just wanted to let you know that the boat lunch was canceled because tonight we're attending Midsummers.Hey you okay? You look sad."My dad said while setting his book down.

"I just had a bad dream about Ryder. I'll be fine. What the fuck is midsummers anyway? Some gathering of rich people?" I put sugar and milk in my coffee and took a sip.

"Language kiddo! But yes, it pretty much is and we're only going because the Camerons invited us. You and I are going dress shopping so get dressed and let's go." My mom walked off to her room and I finished my coffee.

I got dressed and threw on a hat over my long dirty blonde hair. I hated shopping.

We made it to a store that was on this mall strip near the surf shop. I tried on different dresses and finally found one I liked.I looked HOT. As we were walking out Rafe drove by on his dirt bike.

"Rafe!" I called out and he parked his bike.

"I'll meet you in the car hun." My mom squeezed my arm softly and walked to the car.

"Well well well. I see you got a dress for midsummers." He took off his helmet and set it down.

"Yeah. Your parents invited my family. Obviously super pumped." I gave a sarcastic face and waved a fist in the air.

"I bet you'll look sexy." He laughed.

"Shut up Rafe. You don't get to act all flirty with me after you pulled that stunt last night. You're a fucking idiot." I gave him a shove.

He stood up and walked closer to me and breathed down my chest.

"You don't have a say in what I do. Your friends started it. Listen you drive me absolutely crazy and I literally don't stop thinking about you. I'm sorry for the shit I do but i'm not gonna stop." He cupped my face with his hands.

"Ugh for the love of god kiss me." I smirked and he smashed his lips onto mine. I know I was stupid for falling for him but could you blame me?

"Do you have a date for midsummers?" He asked as I pulled away from the kiss.

"Nope. Thought about finding a cute surfer down by the beach." I smirked at him.

"Absolutely not. You're my date whether you like it or not. I don't wanna go because my dad gets all business guy on me and tries to control my life but i'm going anyway." He snaked his arms around my waist and I put my arms around his neck.

"Well if I have to defend you I guess I will. I shouldn't because you're a dick but you're a cute dick." I laughed at him.

"Whatever pogue. I'll see you around. I gotta go buy a stupid tux." He gave me another small kiss and started putting on his helmet.

"Rafe, what are you and I doing? Whats going on between us?" I held my dress close to me and watched him.

"Whatever you want to be going on between us." He strapped his helmet on and took off.

I sighed and walked to meet my mom in the car.

"Well, looks like you and that Cameron boy are pretty close." My mom gave me a small smirk and I could feel my face burn.

"Uh yeah. We're really close. He's just misunderstood but I like that about him." I put my seatbelt on and leaned my head back.

We drove off and as we were driving I saw JJ and his dad walk out of the county jail. I was so confused. I watched him and his father get in his dads truck and his dad beat him. There was nothing I could do. I didn't wanna make it worse.

My mom and I made it home and my whole family dispursed into different rooms and got dressed for tonights event.

This is what I wore.

I slipped on tan heels and a few rings for accessories. I curled my hair in loose beach waves and topped it off with a flower crown that had white Hawaiian flowers on it.

I walked out into the living room to see what my parents had on.

"Oh honey you look BEAUTIFUL!" My mom put her hand on my cheek and gave me a quick hug.

"You look great buddy." My dad said and also gave me a hug.

We got in the car and headed to the country club. I don't know why but I was super jittery and felt like I could run a mile. My heart was literally gonna fall out of my ass.

We got out of the car and I picked the bottom of my dress up as we walked to the club. I saw Pope and Kie chatting while I stood at the top of the deck. I walked towards them and gave Kie a hug.

"Kie you look so cute!" I gave her a big smile and hugged her.

"Dude you literally look like cinderella! Where's your prince charming?" She quietly whispered that last part. As if right on cue in walked the Camerons.

"He looks good in that suit." I covered my mouth after I said what I said.

"Um Brin you have a little drool on the side of your mouth." Pope pointed at my face.

"Oops." I wiped my mouth and watched as Ward guided Rafe to chat with some friends of Wards. Probably the business men.
