chapter six - time's up!

Someone, I'm not too sure who, poisoned Chidi. Now he's dead.

That's the theory we've alluded to. I mean, there's not much more explanation for somebody coughing out blood and dying of it. Right?

It isn't as shocking for me. In fact, I can only see Mateo when I should be focused on Chidi's death. Nobody else says anything. Which is only fair.

"What... just happened?" Elizabeth mutters. Her confident glimmer of a smile has faded into an expression of pure disbelief. The same has happened for the rest of the group, including Alab. Glancing over at him, I notice the shock painted on his pale face.

"I think we all know by now," a familiar voice responds with undertones of smug realisation. God, will she ever say something useful?

"Now is not the time to make meaningless accusations, Marley-" Omar can barely finish his sentence before she butts in.

"How oblivious to the truth are you all? It's pretty clear who the killer is and denial will only lead to more deaths," she states. Hands on her hips, proud look on her face, irritating grin. It sounds awful but Marley really is a terrible person. She doesn't let anybody speak as she carries on.

"I've done enough investigation of my own to come to the conclusion that Quinn is the murderer." Her voices echoes with a sickening tone of accomplishment. What?

"Oh my god, listen to yourself! What sort of psychopath would I need to be to kill one of my closest friends, two people I don't even know AND blame others for it, including my friend? You are full of lies Marley!" Quinn's basically screaming at the top of her lungs now. For someone like her, seeing her this upset is frightening. Couldn't imagine Marley feeling anything of the sort.

"ENOUGH! We have plenty of time to bicker about this later but can we just get to revealing votes?" Melodie cuts in. It even takes me by surprise.

The two don't say a word in response.

Instead, Marley goes to retally our votes. She counts them once, counts them twice then grins eagerly.

"Well, it doesn't look like a mistake has been made. With a majority of 6 to 4, Quinn has been voted out! What a shame," she sarcastically sobs. Huh?

"There's no way, there must have been a mistake! Would you mind if I counted the votes?" I finally speak up. Marley shifts her menacing gaze towards me.

"I suppose so," she sighs. I slowly approach her and gather the 10 slips of paper.

QUINN

Unfortunately, Marley was correct. There is no mistake. Nobody believes Quinn is innocent. It takes me a few moments to properly wrap my head around it. Nearly everyone here has no faith in us.

There isn't much more said after I return the votes. And I guess it's only fair, we're all still shaken from Chidi's death. Somebody's moved Chidi's body away from the campfire so I find the capacity to go to it.

I can't help but feel bad for him. He's in perfect condition, minus the blood stains around his mouth. And then I see more block letters scrawled on his arm, similar to Adanna. This time, the word THE is written. Unusual.
