Oikawa had been looking, different to say the least. His eye bags were very apparent in the morning light, red splotches from teary nights stained his facial features. He didn't look the same.
During practice he grew easily frustrated, snapping at his teammates and closest friends.
People had tried confronting him about his attitude, but he brushed them off insisting he was fine. Although of course he wasn't. Iwaizumi knew when he was fine, and he definitely wasn't fine.
In middle school he grew distant from his team during a hard time and pushed everyone away. Iwaizumi wasn't about to let him self destruct again.
When he went to confront him at practice that day, he wasn't there.
The team said he never turned up, but he had been in school that day so it didn't make sense for him not too. Oikawa wasn't the type to skip practice, even on bad days. When he was in pain and struggling with his knee he would still push himself. So this was out of the ordinary.
Practice ended abruptly that day, he decided he would visit Oikawa and confront him then. However he wasn't at home.
Iwaizumi trekked the familiar pathways towards his house, only to find a red moving van and countless bags being loaded into the back. Oikawa's mother stood in the door way, arms folded with a face of sorrow.
Oikawa's father, on the other hand, was shouting unnecessary insults at the woman and his son who wasn't even present. One suitcase he tossed flew open and items of clothing spilled across the wet tarmac.
"Miss Oikawa?" He reluctantly made his way down the steps to the doorway. Oikawa's mother had been so kind to him throughout his life so he had to make sure she was okay.
"Hajime." She leant him a soft smile before wiping her tears with a tissue. "Sorry you had to see me on a day like this, if you're looking for Toru I hate to disappoint you but he didn't come home today."
His blood boiled at that statement. They didn't know where he was? He could scream in frustration yet he didn't, knowing the hardships of divorce after witnessing his parents go through the same thing.
"I'll go to look for him, don't worry Miss Oikawa."
He bowed before heading back down the path.
"Hajime!"
They made brief eye contact before she continued.
"Tell him I'm sorry."

As Iwaizumi ventured his neighbourhood there was no sign of the setter. He had explored every possible location he knew he could be, but they were all eerily empty.
Each deserted location was covered with a thin layer of fog an rain. All he wanted to do was find his best friend and make sure he was safe, because he knew the other would go to the ends of the earth for him.
"God dammit Oikawa." He said as he pulled out his phone from his pocket.
After it went to voicemail approximately eight times he gave up. He hadn't given up on looking for him, not at all, but he had given up on calling him. Clearly, the setter wanted to alone otherwise he would've picked up in a heartbeat.
But Iwaizumi wouldn't return home until he knew he was safe.
He retraced his steps multiple times before finally averting his direction.
There was a small park situated near a corner shop. Oikawa sat lonesome on a bench surrounded by mist, the sight was dismal, it didn't look right on him.
Iwaizumi made his way over to him slowly, as not to startle his friend. He perched beside him carefully, although the latter didn't move a muscle. His eyes remained closed, his face drenched by the rain of the evening. It was silent, for a minute.
When Oikawa finally opened his eyes nobody said anything, although Iwaizumi could think of a thousand things he wanted to say in that moment.
'Talk to me.'
'Are you okay?'
'What's wrong?'
Or 'I love you.'
Anything to provoke a reaction from him, but he didn't have to say anything at all. Oikawa himself initiated the conversation.
"I'm just so tired." His neck draped down as his eyes fixated their gaze onto the ground.
"Bullshit." Oikawa was visibly startled at his assertive tone, yet he carried on. "There's more to it than that, talk to me Oikawa." His request was more of a demand.
The setter was reluctant, for a moment. But he knew he wasn't getting away without explaining why he was sat in the pouring rain allowing himself to be soaked right through.
"My parents are getting a divorce."
Momentary silence struck the pair again before Oikawa let out a chuckle, although it was drenched in pain.
"I thought I would be able to deal with it because I'm not a child. But it hurts." The words in his throat chocked him as tears filled his eyes. "It hurts a lot knowing they don't love each other anymore."
A comforting hand placed itself on Oikawa's shoulder allowing him to relax a little.
"My dad is moving out today and I didn't want to be there so I'm here. It's strange, knowing I won't seem them together anymore. My mum took all the pictures off the wall and yeah."
He began rubbing small comforting circles into Oikawa's back as his body was now shaking.
"That's fine." Oikawa said in a melancholy voice.
"I'll settle for two birthdays."
Hearing the sadness in his voice Iwaizumi could no longer resist and drew the boy into a hug. Holding him close as he shook against his chest. His warm tears contrasted with the rain letting him know he was crying.
"I'm here, it's okay. Breathe for me yeah?"
And so he did, his breathing slowed and his tears halted. All that was left was a faint sniffling as he buried his head against his chest.
Iwaizumi allowed him to remain there for a while as he collected himself. When he deemed it okay, he lifted his chin gently so that they were facing each other.
Both were extremely cold, but that didn't matter to them. Iwaizumi placed two hands against the others face and admired his features.
"You're beautiful, Toru."
Oikawa was taken a back, yet he smiled, allowing the other to bring their foreheads together.
"Your mum, she wanted me to tell you she was sorry. I don't know what for."
The setter nodded before speaking.
"She slapped me. It's not a big deal though, she's never hurt me before and wouldn't do it again. She's just upset I think." As much as Oikawa insisted 'it wasn't a big deal' Iwaizumi could feel the tears wracking his body with every syllable spoken, it had been like this for a while now.
"Everything's going to be okay. I promise. We should get you some place warm." He hesitated before his next suggestion. "You could come over to mine? I don't want you catching a cold."
The other laughed and nodded in agreement before his usual mocking side came out.
"Are you my mum Iwa-chan?" Oikawa joked.
"No, I'm you boyfriend."
He pressed a quick kiss to his lips before taking his hand and leading him home.
They definitely should've bought an umbrella.
