(Y/N) awoke to light streaming onto her face, she sat up groggily and took in the unfamiliar surroundings. The bed was soft, it sunk under her weight, and the duvet was warm and fluffy. The white walls contrasted the grey ones she was use to back in the Hydra bases that she was sent to. She sat up straighter remembering the events of the previous night and turned to look at the clock. It read 7:30am, she flopped back down onto the bed, snuggling into the duvet, trying to regain the warmth she lost.

(Y/N) shut her eyes, thinking about her probation. She wasn't surprised. She knew what she had to offer, and it would be useful to the team. It would have been exactly what she had done. 'Smart' she thought. Right on queue she heard a knock on the door to the room.

"(Y/N)?" Sam called out. "Are you awake?" He asked tentatively, quite nervous to wake her up.

Outside, the Avengers were debating who should wake her up. At first they asked Scott, but his excuse was that he was leaving to go back home, then they wanted Wanda to do it, how she was a girl and might but her at ease, but Wanda had barely spoken to her. It was Bucky's idea to send Sam to go get her, since she had taken a liking to him. (By that he meant that she didn't roll her eyes when he said something dumb. It was their best shot.) Sam secretly was wondering if Bucky had volunteered to send him to her room, in hopes of her getting angry and snapping his neck. Honestly, he wouldn't put it past him.

"Yeah" (Y/N) called back, her voice sore from just waking up. She grabbed the cup of water on her bedside table that someone had taken the liberty of putting there. She stumbled into the bathroom, the light temporarily blinding her. He looked into the mirror. God, she looked terrible. She grabbed the toothbrush there began to brushed her teeth, thinking about the day ahead.

She re-tied her hair higher and had a quick shower. (Y/N) walked over to the closet and opened it. Her hand reached out to move clothes around while she looked for her suit, but froze when she realised that it was gone. It was then she remembered that a lady came in and took it away claiming that it was 'disgustingly filthy', which in her defence, it was. The suit was grimy. She had dirt on the legs of it, and there was a sizeable bloodstain on her abdomen area where she had bled out.

Cursing herself mentally for letting the woman taking it, she grabbed some leggings and a t-shirt. She pulled socks on, reaching to grab for her boots, when she saw they were gone as well. "'Damn it' she cursed again. (Y/N) grabbed some trainers and headed outside.

She cautiously made her way down the corridor, unsure of how they would react. They had been nice enough last night, but she was still wary of them. (Y/N) knew they didn't trust her, and was quite sure that the whole thing was a set up.

She padded quietly until she reached the living room/kitchen area. It was more of a large common room. She was surprised to see only Bruce and Sam sitting there. Bruce was still in his pyjamas, sitting quietly sipping his coffee and reading his newspaper. When she walked into the room she caught his eye. (Y/N) could tell that he was uncomfortable but still greeted her with a smile nevertheless. She respected him for that. Sam was sweaty, looking like he had just come back from a run cooking breakfast. "G'd morning" (Y/N) mumbled. Sam looked up, "(Y/N)!" He greeted. All the other Avengers had left after he had knocked on her door. (Y/N) woke up quite late, so they had disappeared off to their respective duties.

"Breakfast?" He asked. (Y/N), upon smelling the delicious breakfast, agreed immediately. They had both sat down and were now chatting. The painful small talk you made when you met someone knew. Sam smiled amusedly as he watched (Y/N) devour the breakfast.

"Enjoying it?" He asked, chuckling slightly.

"It's good" was all (Y/N) said.

Sam grinned mirthfully. His smile slowly slid off his face as he realised that this was probably the first time in a long time that (Y/N) had eaten a home-cooked meal. His mood dropped. "(Y/N).." He started slowly. She looked up from the breakfast. She had gotten seconds, she didn't realise just how hungry she was until she smelt the food. Sam realised that she was just a child. Where was her family? Did they even know that she was alive?
