~ Aziraphale's Perspective ~
Present Day, Sunday.
The angel Aziraphale was curled up in his bookshop, happily sipping a mug of hot cocoa and reading one his classic books. That was just the way he wanted to spend his night, considering their latest victory. No humans, no angels, no demons. Just him and his beloved books. Such a clever species the humans were, to have invented something so great.
Aziraphale looked up from his book guiltily. Victory. That was really what he thought of it as. In a way, it had been. He and Crowley, one of Hell's favourite demons, had saved Earth, stopped Armageddon and postponed the war between Heaven and Hell. He had disobeyed just about every single order his Boss, the Archangel Gabriel, had given him.
BUT - he now possessed his flaming sword once again.
Yesterday was a Saturday. As far as the humans were concerned, nothing out of the ordinary had gone about that day, and Sunday was business as usual. Only Heaven, Hell, Crowley and Aziraphale knew what sort of shenanigans had taken place the day before. For thousands of years, Heaven and Hell had been planning a war in the name of God and Satan Themselves. You know, just the kind of thing you would expect from two opposite sides. A war to see who was better. In Aziraphale's opinion, there was absolutely no need to drag Earth into things. He and Crowley had practically stood on the streets and protested the coming war.
It had all started... Well, when it had all started. In the VERY BEGINNING. Aziraphale had been given a flaming sword and was told to go and guard the apple tree in the garden of Eden. Not guard it, really... Just make sure things had been going according to God's "Ineffable Plan". After the Earth had been around for six days, the demon Crowley had tempted Adam and Eve, the only two humans on Earth, to the forbidden fruit from the forbidden tree. Of course, that too, had been part of God's Plan. That was the day Aziraphale met Crowley. Crowley had joked about Heaven and Hell itself, the demon made fun of all the worst things that would most certainly get him into trouble.
Not like I care, Aziraphale thought. His job was to destroy demons like Crowley - not be their... Their... Acquaintance. Aziraphale respected Crowley for his courage and help over the past few millennia, but he would not consider them friends of any sorts. Aziraphale recalled the day they'd made their so-called Agreement. He'd been in Rome, in the twelfth century. He'd just popped over to taste some of the new foods the humans had invented there. Aziraphale was a big foodie. In fact, food was his second favourite thing. Besides books, of course. At a bar, he'd run into Crowley.
Rome - 1239
"Just give me a shot of everything drinkable," A familiar voice told the waitress at the bar. Aziraphale looked up, and watched the waitress nod.
"Crowley? Well, isn't this an unexpected surprise," Aziraphale said cheerfully, approaching the dark red haired demon. The waitress returned with a glass, and Crowley began sipping it, dully staring into space, not paying Aziraphale any attention. Crowley always tried to blend in with the style of the decade, he'd almost never had the same haircut. Aziraphale, on the other hand, preferred the same old same old. The demon's spiky wavy hair was messy and curly that decade, and he wore a silver crown like thing on his head. Most Greeks did, it was twisted in vines. He had spectacles that barely covered his serpentine yellow eyes, and, as usual, was dressed in all black. Aziraphale sat next to him, smiling.
"Still a demon, then?" He said casually, trying to make small talk. Crowley dipped his finger in his drink, twirling the liquid around tediously.
"Still a demon, what kind of question is that?" Crowley snapped, "What else am I gonna be? An aardvark?" He hissed.
