All I knew this morning when I woke
Is I know something now, know something now I didn't before
And all I've seen since eighteen hours ago
Is green eyes and freckles
And your smile in the back of my mind making me feel like
I just want to know you better

After the darkness that had been surrounding me, the light that was shining down from the ceiling was incredibly bright, almost blinding. I blinked a few times and immediately my eyes filled with hot tears again.

I felt a strong sickness raising inside of my stomach.

"Casey?", I mumbled, interrupted by a heavy cough. My throat was still all sore and the try to talk hurt.

Step by step I started to rebuild everything that had happened in my mind. I remembered seeing Erin Lindsay's face.
Lindsay...

She'd probably been there for Severide. Hmm, what about Severide? Oh yeah, we'd been called out on a duty!
Chief Boden's wedding!

'Cause all I know is we said hello
And your eyes look like coming home
All I know is a simple name Is everything has changed
All I know is you held the door
You'll be mine and I'll be yours
All I know since yesterday
Is everything has changed

We had been celebrating in the firehouse when the alarm went on.

Exactly, that's it!

Then we left the party and hurried to a building...
The building!

The house blew up while we were inside! Shay and I had been on the ground floor so we got out more or less easily. My brother and Detective Lindsay helped us get to the ambulance. That's why I remembered Erin's face.

And then the next thing I remembered was waking up here, all alone in this hospital room with the bright light shining into my face.

But there was something else. I was missing one detail that seemed to be wiped off my brain.
Let's start at the beginning.

And all my walls
Stood tall painted blue
But I'll take them down
Take them down and open up the door for you.
And all I feel in my stomach is butterflies
The beautiful kind, making up for lost time
Taking flight, making me feel like
I just want to know you better

We prepared firehouse 51 for the wedding. Herman called, saying they'd be there in 20 minutes.

Him and Chief Boden arrived.
The ceremony.
The dance.
The cake.

Laughing people.

Casey holding my hand... Casey! Oh, my god.
Gabriela Dawson...
You are the strongest, most single-minded woman I've ever known. I'm a lucky man to have you in my life. And I want to make sure we're together forever.

He kneeled down in front of me.
Will you marry me?

'Cause all I know is we said hello
And your eyes look like coming home
All I know is a simple name
Is everything has changed
All I know is you held the door
You'll be mine and I'll be yours
All I know since yesterday
Is everything has changed

His bright smile that got me so overwhelmed.

Then the alarm.

No, wait!

I went through the whole scene again. And again. And again, and again, and again.

The proposal, Casey's smile, the alarm.

I didn't say Yes!

The alarm went on and I didn't answer. And now I had no idea if I would ever get the chance to.

Just as I wanted to break out in tears, the door suddenly opened and a young, dark-haired doctor walked in. The small name tag on her chest - which I could barely read - said 'Freedman'.

"Oh, you are awake!", Dr. Freedman said, smiling. "Welcome back. How are you feeling?"

Come back and tell me why I'm feeling like
I've missed you all this time
And meet me there tonight
And let me know that it's not all in my mind
I just want to know you better
Know you better, know you better now
I just want to know you
Know you, know you

"Thirsty", I answered with a coarse voice.

She gave me a little plastic cup and helped me sit up.

The cold water felt so incredibly good as it was streaming down my throat. Now I trusted my voice way more. "How is my team? The people from firehouse 51?"

The look on the doctor's face switched from frienly to worried. "I don't know anything specific. But it looks bad."
It looks bad.

"H-how bad?"

She quickly turned around, then turned back to me. "He can probably tell you more than I can."

I let my eyes wander to the door, and just in that moment Severide came in.
