ILLEGAL | Huening Kai

2. TRIAL

14th September 2020

It was the day of the trial, where Huening Kai would try to prove Eunha's father not guilty. Eunha and her mother went to the court 30 minutes earlier so they could have a discussion with their lawyer.

"Good morning Mrs. Moon and Miss Eunha" he greeted them. "Good morning sir, did you find any evidence?" The girl asked him desperately. "Yes I did, I found a video of someone breaking into your house through the window. It was recorded in the black box of your neighbour's car" he replied which made the two desperate women look at each other in joy. "Thank you so much! You are our savior" Mrs. Moon said with tears in her eyes. "Please don't thank me and it's my job so I'm doing what I should" he said keeping a hand on her shoulder to reassure the middle aged woman. Suddenly his phone rang and before answering the call he said "Please wait inside, the trial will begin soon. I'll be there in a few minutes" and left.

Mrs. Moon and Eunha headed inside and after a few minutes Park Jin Young arrived with his men. He looked at Eunha and her mother with a smirk and took his seat.

"Yes, we recieved a complaint about the theft and our team immediately went to the address and we found the cash under the mattress in Mr. and Mrs. Moon's room" said the police officer who had arrested Eunha's father, the last week.

"I think this evidence is enough to prove the crime" said the prosecutor incharge of the case. "Mr. Huening, would you like to say something to defend your client?" asked the judge. Mr. Moon looked at his family and Eunha nodded with a fake smile indicating that everything will be alright. "Yes your honour, my client says that he's not guilty. According to Mr. Park the theft occured on the day of 6th May 2021, but I would like to call Mrs. Moon to testify the events of the particular day" he said indicating Mrs. Moon to come forward.

"It was my birthday and at the same time it was a Sunday so my family was together for the entire day and then we went to a nearby restaurant for dinner to celebrate my birthday" Eunha's mother explained, trying not to break down. "That's it your honour" said Huening Kai. "Do you even call this an evidence?" the prosecutor mocked him. "Do you have any solid evidence to prove the innocence of your client?" asked the judge. "I'm afraid that I don't" Huening Kai replied hesitantly. This made Eunha and her mother shock as their eyes went wide. "What the hell do you mean by you don't have any other evidence?" Eunha roared as she got up from her seat. "Miss Moon this is a court, kindly maintain your behaviour, it's a warning" the judge spoke sternly. "Mr. Huening what about the video-" Eunha continued but was cut off by the judge again "Miss Moon it's the second warning, if this happens we'll have to send you out of this court"

"Hereby we declare that Mr. Moon Shihyuk is guilty of the crime and sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment" the judge made his final decision and Eunha and her parents stood there helplessly in shock. The trial ended and the police was about to walk out with Mr. Moon but Eunha ran to her father and hugged him tightly. "Please d-don't take my father... he's innocent, I beg you she said as she cried desperately. "The decision has been made, please leave" the police officer said as he pushed the girl away and dragged Mr. Moon followed by the guards.

Huening Kai witnessed the entire scene with an emotionless face. He sighed as he felt guilty looking at the condition of the weeping girl and Mrs. Moon who was just sitting at a seat in complete shock. He packed his things and left the room. Mrs. Moon got back to her senses as she heard the sobs of her daughter. She helped her stand up and said "Don't cry, we'll find a way, okay? We'll prove your father innocent" as she wiped the tears of her daughter.

Suddenly something clicked Eunha, Kai Kamal Huening, she was angry, frustrated, sad, there was a hurricane of extreme emotions as she rushed out of the room to find the man. "Eunha-ya!" her mother said but the girl was already out of her sight. She began to look for him everywhere.

She was passing by the men's restroom when she heard a familiar voice.

"Yes Mr. Park, your men delivered the money to me...ah the video? Nothing much, I'll just delete it. Yes, sure"

She didn't care that it was men's restroom and rushed inside to find the man she was looking for and their eyes met. Before he could even react, Eunha ran and punched him strongly on his face, even though he was so tall, she managed to hit him hard on the left side of his face. "So you did this for money huh? You are just like that asshole Park Jin Young" she yelled as tears continued to fall. She was really sad due to what happened to her father but more than that she was angry.

"Woah, I didn't expect you to be so strong" he chuckled as he looked at the bruise on his face in mirror. "You still have the audacity to joke? Do you have any conscience you scumbag?!" she roared. "Look I know whatever happened to your father is really bad but he shouldn't have messed with a powerful person like Park Jin Young. Honesty doesn't always reward you little girl" he sighed. Two men entered and looked at the scene awkwardly. Huening Kai grabbed Eunha's wrist and dragged her out of the bathroom. "Jerk" the girl yelled as she jerked her wrist out of his grip. "What should I do now?" She continued crying. Huening Kai offered his handkerchief to her but she slapped his hand away. "Just go home, your mother must be looking for you" he said in a gentle way as he pitied the helpless girl then left.

"There you are...you scared me" Mrs. Moon said as her daughter returned to the trial room and pulled her into warm embrace. "Don't cry, okay? We need to stay strong for your father so that we can help him" she added rubbing the back of the girl who was a crying mess.
