It was a silent ride back to the cabin from the airport. Not an uncomfortable one, but as Sapnap drove them down the interstate Dream couldn't bring himself to say anything. Sapnap didn't seem keen to start a conversation, either. They were both lost in their own thoughts, and that was okay.
It was a sad thing that Drista had to go so early. It felt as though a part of him had left for Florida, but at least he now had something to look forward to besides his own bed. He loved George and all but sleeping in a two by three feet space as a six foot tall man was not the best feeling in the world.
They finally turned onto the smooth, steep driveway of the mountain and began their climb. In only a minute or so he would be back and would have to pretend he wasn't sad at all. He adjusted his mask- what everyone else couldn't see wouldn't hurt him.
However, words rang in his mind. Words that were all too familiar but when Drista had pulled him aside at the airport and said them again they stung with much more brutality.
Please don't be scared to show them. It's like you're hiding your emotions from them, and I know you feel how wrong it is to think they'll change how they treat you. They won't judge you, Clay.
Some of the last words she had spoken, and now they were coming back to haunt him as they came around the corner and turned into the flat parking area in front of the massive cabin. Sapnap put the car in park and sighed.
"Back to the party, huh?"
"Yep." Dream didn't look at him but instead pulled his seatbelt off and hopped out of the car, closing the door behind him a bit harder than he meant to. Sapnap's door shut loud enough to know they were in the same boat and they walked together up to the house.
When they opened the door, they were met with a sight Dream wasn't very surprised by. Phil, Fundy and Puffy were on the main couch, Wilbur and Niki on the loveseat, Bad and Skeppy in the other loveseat across the room, and Technoblade, Ant, Sam, Jimmy, Chris, Chandler, Jake, and Quackity on the sectional. Ranboo and Purpled were sitting against the couch on either side of Phil's legs, while Teriq and Marcus stood behind their friends on the sectional.
In the middle of the floor, there was what looked like a very serious game of chess. The coffee table had been moved in between Tubbo and Tommy and the two were leaned over their pieces, faces hard as stone and eyes moving frantically.
"Your move, Tommy." Phil said softly.
"I want to tag someone in," Tommy said, folding his arms but not taking his eyes off the board.
"Alright, then who?"
"Technoblade." There were chuckles and Techno stood up, swaggering over and crouching behind Tommy. He stared at the pieces for a moment, then muttered something in Tommy's ear. He moved a piece quickly and Tubbo looked taken aback, staring after Techno as he walked back to his seat.
"Want to tag someone in or save it?" Phil asked.
"Save it. I know my move." Tubbo took the freshly moved piece but was quickly countered as Tommy took his, slapping the time box a little too roughly. Tubbo bit his lip, fingers hovering over the pieces.
"Tag someone in," He said, leaning back.
"Who?"
"Ranboo." Ranboo hopped up and walked over, sitting behind Tubbo and moving his face close to the chess board. Dream wondered how he was able to see through the dark lenses, but that didn't seem to matter. Ranboo immediately gave Tubbo a nudge and said something under his breath. Tubbo's face lit up and he grabbed a piece and moved it so fast Dream couldn't tell what it was. He hit the time box and left Tommy frozen.
