Gunpoint

Grant Ward was gone. He had escaped.

Just like Sophie had predicted.

The minute Coulson had told them she didn't know how to feel. There were waves, anger, disappointment, frustration...but the worst of all? Fear. She was afraid. Her worst pain, her worst betrayal, someone she knew who was capable of true evil, he was out there in the world.

And what was worse, he knew everything about her.

One wrong move from Coulson, or even one calculated scheme from Grant, and someone she loved could be in danger.

He was one of the only people - although it was probably on one of her classified files somewhere - who knew about her younger siblings.

Her younger siblings. They were seperated when she was eight, Emile was four, and Adeline had only just turned one. The absence of their parents was a long and complicated story, and Sophie didn't like to think on it, but she remembered that day when she was eight, being taken into care by the French authorities.

She was separated from them, from Emile, but he remembered her, and Adeline did not, how could she? She was just a baby. But Sophie remembered them.

She ran away from her foster home at thirteen, the same time she left school. And she found her brother and sister, got their addresses, and spent the rest of her time in France getting to know them again.

And, once she had gotten money and protection from living the more outlawing life, she took them in and looked after them, provided for them the way their parents never could. Their life was good, finally a family again.

Until she got arrested.

Luckily Emile was almost of age when she was arrested, and was able to maintain a job and take care of Adeline while Sophie was away.

When she got recruited for SHIELD, she would send half of her salary to them each month to help keep them afloat. She still did. No one knew this, but Grant and Bobbi. The last time she went back to France to visit, her then boyfriend, Grant, went with her. He knew where they lived.

So yes, the biggest thing she felt when Coulson told him he had escaped, was fear.

"Agent Bouchard."

She got snapped out of her thoughts and looked up at her boss.

"Do you have any idea where he could have gone?"

She exhaled, briefly glancing at all the eyes on her.

"'He 'as two to five hotboxes in every state in America, and a few in most other major countries. The first place 'e will go is to one of those, or to a few of them." She said plainly, trying to keep hold of her emotions until she could leave the meeting and call Emile. "I can give you a list of the ones I know."

"So he's just making a run for it? Where does he go after that?"

"No...you're focusing on the wrong thing," she said to Coulson. "What matters is what he wants."

"Will he go back to Hydra? I mean-"

"'e never cared about 'ydra," Sophie cut Skye off softly, "'e only ever cared about Garrett."

Coulson leaned on his desk, looking at her, "so what does he care about now?"

"I don't..." she closed her eyes, trying to think.
