Sophie woke up in a cold room on hard bathroom tiles. She looked up at the sink she was handcuffed to, and realised there was another handcuff there too.
"Sleeping beauty, finally awake," Hunter said dryly.
"Where are we?"
He shrugged, "Mack took us somewhere, I've only seen him once since we got here...no idea where we are, he wouldn't tell me."
"Is he here?" She asked.
"No, no, I think he went out for something..."
Hunter looked at her as she managed to sit up, and sighed. Normally he'd feel pretty confident in a hostage situation with Sophie Bouchard, but she was pretty banged up, unable to walk, bruised and unstable. He wasn't feeling confident now, not at all. Because he knew he had to get out of this, but he'd have to try to get her out too, which was going to be more of a challenge.
"So Bobbi and Mack..." she looked at him, "what...?"
"I don't know...I knew they were in on something together for a while, just from overhearing things, how they were acting...but it just started to get more suspicious, Bobbi was distancing herself, I heard them talking about backup and then..."
"And then you confronted Mack?"
He nodded, leaning his head back on the wall, "and now, here we are."
"I saw him take you down, tried to call for help, then he iced me," she said, looking around, "so, 'ow do we get out of this one?"
"Well, got anything to get us out of these cuffs?" Hunter asked, pulling on the metal, making a clanging noise echo through the bathroom.
"Mm, one sec," she reached into her hair, feeling about for any grips, before groaning, "the one day I didn't do anything with my hair, fuck...sorry."
"It's alright, I didn't do anything with my hair either," he joked lightly, making her smile, "we'll figure out a way, maybe take him out when he comes back in."
She frowned, but nodded, looking away.
This was Mack. He was supposed to be her friend. He had been for years. What had changed? Who was he working with that would make him betray her like this?
And Bobbi? Her best friend. Her partner in crime since she joined SHIELD. How was she in on this? Why would she betray Shield?
The bathroom door was slightly open, but there wasn't anything to see. They were obviously in some type of room, but where, they had no idea.
"I could do with a beer right now," Hunter murmured, closing his eyes.
Sophie made an amused noise, "I could do with a cigarette."
"Top two things we look for after we escape," Hunter joked, making her snort with laughter.
"The most helpful things."
What sounded like a door opening made them both fall silent. Then it closed, and there were footsteps.
"Yeah, made it to the nearest safe house," Mack's gruff voice spoke, obviously on the phone.
Sophie exchanged a look with Hunter, who had sat up significantly straighter as he listened.
"...Yeah, a mess I didn't make, but I'm cleaning it up the best way I can. I told you, we should have told Soph before-"
