"Do you believe in afterlife?" We were slow dancing to a vintage music when he asked me a question. His arms were on my waist, it was one of those typical dances that I used to see back in the old days."What made you to ask this?"
"Just curious."
"I don't believe them, but some things make me wonder about that."
"Like?"
"I cannot exactly tell. It's weird."
"Yeah, some processes are hard to solve and deal with." As he said, I eyed him curiously. Deal with?
"Well, I do believe in them." He stare at me like he used to do. I wondered why does he stare like that? Like always.
"What do you want to do after school?"
"Got nothing to do except pondering about the stars."
He grinned from ear to ear, insisting. "I'm really curious."
"Of course, learning."
"Haha..I take your point."
I smiled. We moved in the slow rhythm of the smooth music in spite of feeling someone's dark gaze on me. The gaze and presence, they were both cryptic from the space. If he wasn't here, I wouldn't be very much thankful to his kind support. Someone was right, friends in need is a good friend indeed!
"You loving the mundane moves?" He murmured.
"Mundane huh? I heard you." Slow dance wasn't that boring especially when you aren't accustomed to it.
He shrugged innocently.
"Um..I gotta tell you something."
"Uh huh."
"I think I like you more than a friend." He confessed looking calm and prepared. I didn't respond as my thoughts ran in different way.
Oh! then this was the reason for his strange stare. He wanted me to be his best friend? It was the only option for meaning more than friends.
I fit into a big smile thinking he wanted me to be his bff? "Really, Kenzo! It isn't a joke, is it?"
"It is not. I like you as-"
"Best friend, I know." I cut in receiving a surprised look. I was dazed finding fun in the air. It wasn't funny at all but his face was very different than normal.
He opened his lips to say something but he jolt his head, the only gesture he made. And suddenly it hit me on the head. Did he meant us to be-
To be..what's the word?
"It seems you need fresh air, once again?" He asked as if he was immune to his what-to-phrase silence. The music had already shuffled. I beamed. "Always 'as a good purpose."
Before we could disappear from the dancing spot, I look around for a pair of rare familiar eyes. But he was nowhere so I turned back my head to the outside.
"Kenzo, I want to ask you something?" I asked as we walked through the door; chats and music lagging behind the limited hall.
"Go ahead."
"Um..it's about your brother." When I said that, his shoulders tensed. The same thing happened earlier when he saw Stone escorting me inside the partying hall and had vanished into the crowd telling me to dance and will be around.
"What do you want to ask? About him." His syllable at the later sentence was firm and cold?
Should I really ask?
