When I awoke that night I found myself laying in a pool of my own blood. Why does everything hurt so bad? As I struggled to unsuccessfully stand up I discover my leg was broken and my left eye was swollen shut. Falling to the floor my body gave out and I passed out. It wasn't until I saw Wayne kneeling over me as he talked to people around him. "Who's here Wayne?" He hadn't noticed me coming back to but he did notice the terror in my voice, as his face went pale white. "Don't worry sweetheart. It's just Gemma and I. Your safe." His voice was calming. I let a sigh of relief knowing he wouldn't lie... not right now at least. "Do you know who did this sweetheart?" Gemma's voice popped in my ear causing me to jump. I shook my head, then flashes of the incident kept making there way into my head. Tell that pretty boy V.P. that your with to stop selling to color? "They were wearing white masks. That's all I can remember." Ok yes I lied a smidge but I wanted to deal with it MY way. Wayne and Gemma helped me to the car and immediately took me to the emergency room where I was fit with a cast. They would have let me leave but with the broken leg they decided to keep me over night.
"Max? Are you awake doll?" That husky familiar voice that make my knees weaken with a simple word. My once racing heart had slowed to a calm gallop. "Mmhmm." It was all I could muster up at this point but it was enough for him. "I spoke with the doctors. They told me that.. that you were r..." he was struggling to say the words, like if he said it outloud it would become real. Jax let out a hard sigh before standing to his feet and pacing the room. "Jax?" I pushed his name out of my throat but only a whisper came out, causing Jackson to suddenly stop and stand at the side of my bed. "What do you need me to do Max? Just say the word and I..." I held my hand up, haulting his words midsentence. "Stay." My final word before falling into a deep sleep. Hours later, my eyes fluttered open to find Gemma sitting beside me with Abel in her lap. "Hi, handsome man." I said to Abel with a smile. Waking up next to Jackson would have been great, but waking up to Abel is perfection at its finest.
It wasn't long until Jax ran in the door, anxious to see the three of us sitting there waiting on him. "Hey doll, I'm so sorry I wasn't here when you woke up." He pleaded for forgiveness as he kissed my hands. "You are worth the wait, Jackson Teller. And I can't wait to marry you." I replied before pulling him into a deep kiss. "Married?!" Gemma exclaimed, shocked at not hearing the news sooner or asking for her opinion on the matter. "Come on mom. You know you love Max." He said as though he were undeniably positive then turned to me with that amazing smile of his. Just wait until I get you home. My impure thoughts were beginning to run away with me but they were quickly swept away by the doctor walking into the room. "I have some lab results in and we have some great news. You're pregnant and the baby is doing just fine. You're six weeks along." He then handed me an ultrasound picture of the unborn baby. Needless to say all three of us were in complete shock.
