You slowly trudged along the sidewalk a hand holding the strap of your backpack while the other played with your hair.
You couldn't help but enjoy this moment, a moment of peace and away from the crowds at school, finally going home to where everyone truly understood you.
Home to where although your parents nagged you, or just didn't understand you, but you knew they loved you, and at the end of each day they would understand at least a bit of where you were coming from.
It was exactly the opposite of school. In school everyone thought you were the popular girl that everyone knew, a girl with no flaws, a girl with endless confidence, some even thought you were fake.
But you didn't even try. It wasn't your fault that you were social, nor that you loved meeting and helping knew people.
You didn't even know how a crowd of girls just started following you, how you even got 100 followers on Instagram on the first week of school.
It wasn't that you didn't like the attention, in fact you didn't like it as much as other people do, but it was annoying how everyone just made ideas about you without even knowing you.
Your eyes widened a little when you saw him outside his house playing with his dog.
Him.
Your neighbor, the one you've been crushing on since he moved into the neighborhood in 6th grade. The same guy that you had befriended and you couldn't help but blush every tine he smiled at you.
"Hey Y/N!" He called out. You smiled at him as you neared him.
"Hey Ash!" His dog ran to you, his tail wagging everywhere, happy to see you. "Hey boy." you started petting him and he rolled over showing his stomach.
"We were waiting for you." Ashton smiled a he sat next you. You turned to him with a small smile.
"You were?" You asked. It never seemed to stop, the butterflies and your heart beating wildly.
Ashton was the guy that every girl dreamed of. The one with strong muscles, hair that curled at the ends, eyes that seemed like caramel in the hot summer sun, and dimples so deep, it was hard not to poke them.
It was hard though, always calling him your best friend in your head. Always wondering of he liked you the same way you liked him.
Sometimes you even wondered if knowing a guy so well, ended up as some sort of love for him.
It was hard.
"Yeah, your the highlight of our day." he grinned shouldering you. You put your backpack down on the grass and used it as a pillow as you laid down on it.
"How sweet." You smiled sarcastically.
"I'm serious!" Ashton said looking down at you. You rolled your eyes as you reached for a small blade of grass.
"The opposite of what people think at school." you frowned at the green blade. Ashton lowered it and faced you.
"What do you mean?"
"I over heard some girls in the restroom talk smack about me." you sighed. Ashton smiled softly and laid beside you looking at the clouds with you.
"Are they your friends?"
"No."
"Do you know them?"
"I've said hi to them before."
"Are they nice to you?"
"Not really."
"Y/N," You feel Ashton turn to look at you. "Do you really care about what they say?"
You watched as a small puffy cloud cross the sky as you thought. Did you really care?
Did you think what those girls that you've only said hi to only a handful of times is important, or is it all just rubbish.
"I don't know. I mean either way it hurts Ash." you whispered.
You felt Ashton's finger slide below your chin and turn it towards him.
"What did they say?" He whispered back. You looked back at the sky and sighed.
"They said I was conceited, that I had no feelings, that I was selfish, and needed to stop being a bitch." You didn't want to see Ashton's reaction, because you could already see the smile forming.
After all this was more of a girls conversation but you couldn't seem to find trust in any of those girls that followed your step everyday.
You didn't know who was real or fake. Who cared about you or your social status.
But Ashton was the only guy, make it your only true friend, you actually trusted, you knew him and he knew you.
Flaws, likings, even things you guys hate about each other.
He was a year older than you so you guys didn't really see each other at school, but he did go out with you.
You guys had fun, and he never seemed to care what you wore, or what you ate. He never really cared about who you hung out with.
"Do you know who you are?" Ashton asked instead. You nodded. "Your worth more than what they say Y/N." you smiled.
He turned your face again this time he seemed closer and you didn't turn away.
"I know who you are, and that's not you Y/N." He said moving closer.
"I know your loving, your kind, your the perfect girl, flaws and all." he whispered, his breath fanning over your lips.
Your breath hitched as he finally reached your lips. He didn't stop though, it seemed like he was just checking if you wanted it.
When you didn't move, he pressed more and he slowly moved your lips with his. He sighed into the kiss, and held both your cheeks in his big hands.
"I love you, Y/N." he whispered breaking the kiss.
"Now this is the highlight of my day." you laughed.
