Two teens sit beside one another, both of them sitting comfortably on marble stairs, neither one of them talking. Only staring at the room in front of them. They were both thinking of things that had happened in their friend group in the past couple weeks, things that were unbelievable, some strange things. One was a teenage boy and the other a girl, they weren't related to one another, not even friends, barely acquaintances. They were in one another's life by chance, they did not get along, but if they wanted to keep the ones they loved safe, they at least had to try. "Do you think my brothers could do anything?" She breaks the air with a loaded question.A look of annoyance passes the teenage boy's face, "Well," he begins. "Since Derek is the one everyone seems to be after, and your other older brother seems to know everything about what is going on, they should be able to do something!"
The girl stares at the boy, a look is shared between them, one that shows the girl was asking an honest question, giving him a slight glare she responds, "I don't know, there's something different about them now." She sighs, looking away from the boy, looking towards the skylight, "They weren't like this when I knew them..."
"What were they like?"
"Well they-" She begins, only to get interrupted.
"A lot like Scott, actually." The voice comes from the top of the stairs, a middle aged man stands there confidently, his chest puffed up in his weirdly tight fitting v-neck t-shirt. He had a smirk on his face, but his eyes seemed like they were far away from the room at the moment. "A lot like most teenage boys really... unbearably romantic, profoundly narcissistic, barely tolerable, only too other teenagers."
The teenage boy speaks up, "So what happened?" He questioned, "What changed them?"
"Well," he laughs quietly, barely raising his shoulders, "the same thing that changes a lot of young men, a girl."
Scoffing from where he sits, the teenager stands up from the steps, moving closer towards the man who was now sitting on the bottom of the steps. He raises his hand as he begins to talk, "You're telling me, some girls broke their little hearts? That's why they are who they are now?"
"Yes-" The man begins, looking towards the teenage girl, who just so happened to be his niece, "Do you remember Derek before he was an alpha, before his blue eyes? Do you remember who James was before everything happened?"
The young girl tries to think back to her childhood, mostly coming up blank, the rest of her memories were blurry, something that she just couldn't quite make out. But she just looks at her uncle, shaking her head in a manner that means no.
