The continuous beeping of a heart monitor wakes Charlie out of her sleep. The sterile smell of the room and the scratchy feeling of the blanket fills her senses. Her senses start to come back to her slowly, her mind slowly moving it self from the fog that was clouding her mind. She turns her head slightly, moving her body as well. But the ever present pain the started pulsing from her body make her freeze, hissing out on pain.

Charlie's body was becoming riddled with pain, making her clench her hands together and eyes as well. A deep wave of pain continues to move from one point to another. A few more minutes pass before a small wave of numbness moves throughout her body.

The numb feeling makes her sigh out in relief, relaxing her body slowly against the bed, eyes slowly beginning to open up. It takes a few blinks before her eyes start to make out fuzzy shapes and figures. She couldn't see much of what was in front of her, but what she knew is that there was someone standing at the end of her bed, resting their hands on the footboard.

She couldn't make out the face, all she knew is that she could feel the tension in the room. The face of the person was being blocked by the shadow that was coming from the light behind her. The person was looking at her feet, their gaze not moving.

She began to sit up, shifting her body into the sitting position, but her body was moving slowly as if it had not moved in days, and the soreness hadn't of gone away as the numbness had taken over her body. So she let out a large sigh, not moving from her spot as she let her body relax in the position it was in.

Charlie started to make out the shapes in the room, she started to recognize things. She recognized where she was.

She was in a hospital room.

She was laying down in one of those single hospital beds that felt like the mattress was made out of cardboard, she had tubes sticking in and out of her body connecting to many machines, more than she would like. But the amount of them scared her more than she would admit.

She feels something shift on her left side, which she looks over to see her mother asleep with her arms under her head. Her mother had a tight grip to the blanket beside her hand, she believes her hand was below it but she had moved it out of her grip when waking up. She could see the dark circles below her eyes, which makes Charlie wonder how long she must have had been here. She was wearing her scrubs, so she must have just gotten off a shift when she came to visit her and fell asleep or she was sleeping here before her shift.

Charlie couldn't remember how she landed here, how she ended up here and that was annoying. But at the same time it scared her.

In the corner of her eye she sees the body at the end of her bed making their way over to the right side of the bed, sitting down on the hard plastic chairs that were there.

The figure clears their throat, leaning forward in their chair to set their hands on the side of the bed. The body hadn't of looked up since they had moved, Charlie assumed that they hadn't seen that she was awake. But she now recognizes the face.
