Mels POV

I opened my eyes slowly squinting from how bright everything was.

I looked over to my left to see Toni passed out beside me. She looked so at peace, her hair going in all different directions, the way her head rested on her hand.

God, I love her so much.

I looked to my right to see everyone sleeping except Nora. She was showing a tree in her journal. Has this bitch actually gone crazy?

Maybe the muscles did affect her in some way. I decided to think nothing of it, partly because I felt like death.

"Fuck I need water," I groaned holding my head in my hands. I also smelled like shit.

"Mel?" Toni said in a raspy voice. "Not me, wrong bitch," I replied jokingly.

"Oh my god!" Toni shouted. She sat up quickly and tackled me onto the sand hugging me.

"I was so worried about you, you could have died and I didn't know what to do, you really scared me, Melody," Toni rambled into my ear.

"It's okay, I'm here, I'm breathing and I'm fine," I said rubbing her back comforting her.

Toni pulled away revealing the tears that streamed down her face. "I was so scared that you wouldn't come back," Toni said softly.

"I couldn't live with myself knowing that I could have saved you and I didn't," I explained. Toni nodded her head in acknowledgement.

"You just...looked so lifeless and when you stopped breathing it felt like a part of me was dying with you," Toni explained.

I laid my head on her shoulder looking at the ocean.

"Is that how you felt when you found me?" Toni asked.

I know exactly what she was referring to. I don't like to think about that day at all, I've tried to erase every image of her laying on the floor choking on puke out of my mind.

I've never talked to her about it because I didn't want her to feel any worse than she already did.

She probably already knew how I felt so I didn't think there was any point to bring it up.

I loved her and she loved me right? I just tried to focus on that.

I put my sweater on getting ready to surprise Toni for her birthday. I already told Martha to give us a little time before she comes over.

I was running late so I rushed downstairs grabbed her cake that I baked and headed to my car.

"Have fun sweetie, tell her I say happy birthday," My mom shouted from the porch

"I will," I said waving pulling out from the driveway. I was so excited to give her the cake and my gift. Toni always told me how she hated her birthday.

I never really understood how someone could hate their birthday. Toni didn't even tell me when it was I had to ask Martha.

I pulled up in front of her house. I got her things and walked up the steps. I knocked on the door, no answer.

I know she's home right now, I have her location.

I knocked again, no answer. I went to the back of the house where her room is and looked through the window.

"Toni!" I yelled. No answer. Her window was open a little so I lifted it all the way. I put the cake on her dresser that was conveniently next to the window before I jumped through.

I picked up her gift and jumped through the window.

I went to the living room and she wasn't there. "Toni," I yelled again. I saw her phone on the dining table and I know that she would never leave without her  phone.

The last place in the house to check was the bathroom. I quickly ran upstairs to the bathroom. I tried to turn the door handle but it was locked.

"Toni!" I yelled as loud as could banging on the door.

"Please open this door!" I screamed. I banged on the door as hard as I could.

"Toni, I swear I'm going to kick this door down right now," I yelled.

Tears started falling down my face. "Toni please," I pleaded. I started kicking the door with all my strength.

"Toni," I shouted again crying even more. I ran down the stairs to look for a knife to pick the lock. The lock looked pretty easy to pick.

I opened all the drawers making a mess of everything. I finally found a knife and ran back up the steps.

I quickly picked the lock and burst open the door. I saw her on the floor choking on puke. I turned her over to her side.

Some puke fell out of her mouth but not all of it. I opened her mouth wide and scooped out the rest with my hands.

Toni's eyes were still shut and I was still panicking. I pulled out my phone from my back pocket and quickly dialled 911.

I was hyperventilating like crazy. "Hello?" I said in a panicked voice.

"911 what's your emergency?" a lady said through the phone.

"Ugh... my girlfriend just overdosed and I don't know what to do, please help," I said pacing back and forth.

"What's your location?" The lady asked in a calm voice. How the fuck can someone listen to this and stay so calm.

"11 McKinley Drive," I replied.

"An ambulance should be there in 15 minutes," the lady responded.

"What if she doesn't have 15 minutes?" I shouted. "I'm sorry, there's nothing else I can do," The lady said.

The line went dead.

I sat on the edge of the bathtub trying to calm myself. I felt empty inside just looking at her.
"Please pull through," I whispered to myself.

My hands started shaking uncontrollably. I splashed my face with water anxiously waiting.

15 minutes was starting to feel like an hour. I kneeled over her body examining her face. A tear slide off my face and into hers.

"I love you so much," I cried out. "So much," I continued.

I heard sirens approaching. I brushed myself off and went downstairs and opened the door.

"She's upstairs," I said pointing upward.

The paramedics came in and went upstairs. My hands were still shaking.

two minutes later I see them carrying Toni downstairs in a stretcher.

I took a deep breath. I wiped away the snot that was coming down my face with my arm.

They placed her in the ambulance quickly, closed the doors and drove off.

I closed her front door got in my car and follow them to the hospital.
