TWELVE: PITY

━━━━━━━    ━━

The last time Tsuki went on a trip, was her visit to Japan for a funeral. While living in Korea, she used to come by her grandmother's residence for a short staying. It was all going fine until the white haired was hospitalized—she was diagnosed with a heart disease. No one was there to care for the old one as her dear husband died at the age of 50. Unfortunate it may be, it was however to be expected since it runs in the family. It wasn't all that of a shocker for the related, "she's old anyways," they said.

Judging by how they interpreted it, you could guess your way into thinking that they are terrible people. I mean, they sort of are. But she was, in fact, old. Eighty-nine to be exact. The woman herself didn't really care if she were to pass away at this stage, 'it's a part of life' she thought. There was only a certain child she was rather attentive of—her granddaughter. More specifically, Tsuki. The older sister, Hoshi*, who she loved equally, had her life together quite alright. 'The younger one had a bit rough.' She knew what was going on in the family, she isn't some ignorant old dame. The grandma of course paid more attention to the timid one, she needed the most help after all. Why was she doing this, she asked herself, 'the role of a grandmother?' no, she speculated,

out of pity.

━━

You know it is the withering of winter when the scent of burnt candles are gone. Already in the favourite season of the Japanese, it was now time for a class trip. The school decided to have the students arrive early at school, getting the most out of a trip means spending the most time there. The sad part is the school wasn't open yet, so herds of second year students were gathering out at the front gate at five in the morning. Seeing the excitement on the student's faces hoped it could cheer up a gloomy girl. It wasn't the fact that she had to wake up untimely early that upset the girl, it was rather because their chemistry teacher was the one going with them, the one who Tsuki dissed since the start of the year, the one who still holds a grudge against Tsuki because she didn't tell the class to do an assignment which caused them to fall behind on the subject. Yeah, that chemistry teacher. But their homeroom teacher was also there.

Tsuki was just standing in the packed crowds, wriggling her way to the side for some personal space. Tsuki did have some friends at school, but transferring at such an awkward time didn't lend her many. No one in particular would really go out of their way to make friends with the new girl, I mean if you are good with the place you are in why bother? To top it off, being in a class full of smart people didn't help much either. She found herself somewhat lucky to see an extrovert that was willing to befriend her in the class. Well, actually two. One was dragged by the other, but it still counts. She somewhat enjoys the time they spend together, the snarky remarks the two share makes her stifle a laugh. Though it wasn't often that the three spend much time together, one would regularly go to the first year's classroom to check on a childhood friend, the other however, would kindly stay and chat with the brunette during recesses. Even if the boys have to go to their club practices during lunch, she appreciates them for tagging along with her throughout the year.

Finally getting out of the horde, she then finds herself a bench to sit on. Being bombarded with reminders for souvenirs last night didn't treat her in a good night's sleep, usually people would send a text message but a special someone wanted to give her a late night call. And that special someone has a special sweet tooth that took sixty special minutes of Tsuki's sleep. 'His constant rant about sweets is going to drive me insane someday I swear.'

Just when Tsuki was about to take a short nap on the wooden bench, she was found with a person occupying the seat next to her. "Mornin' 'suki."

'The fuck is Gojo doing here— oh.' Tsuki moved from her curled position to meet hazel eyes. "Your bedhead looks even worse than usual." Tsuki commented.

"That's what my dad said," the taller male said as he let out a yawn.

"Anyways, I'm gonna take a nap. Wake me up when the teachers call."

"Yeah sure," he let out another yawn.

He never woke her up. In fact, they both were sleeping while being five minutes behind their scheduled time. A brown blond was too, running late, carrying a large bag with him as quicken footsteps halted in front of two catnapping students.

"Wake the hell up you two!" the passing student yelled as he kicked the feet of the seated figures.

The two shot up from their previous positions, one oddly had two of his hands covering the sides of his head.

"The fuck—"

"Come on, we're late!" the short one said as he rushed his way inside school.

Realization hit the two as they quickly grabbed their bags and was steps behind the blond.

"Oi, wait up Yakkun!"

━━

The tardy students made quite an entrance for themselves. Being the only ones late and having such an expression on their face didn't please the class teacher waiting. A light scold was told since the teacher was in a good mood, soft mutters of apologizes were spoken from the three.

The bus ride to the airport went well, majority of the people were sleeping since they drained themselves with exhilaration. Tsuki looked out of the clear window, the road looked so smooth under the glowing sun. A bright yellow was emitted from the warm beams, the light warmth was slowly making its way to the top. She wonders what it feels like to look down from a tall building, won't everything look so small? Does she... want to see that? The earth is such a small and tiny place, wouldn't it scare her if she were to see the true reality?

Tsuki knows how compacted the streets look when being cornered by high-rise buildings. Little mices like us walk around on the low ground, going on about our daily lives. Once in a while, would a black mouse appear. It walks in the shadows without the sky people knowing. The sky people never acknowledge the existence of the black mouse. What a pitiful life the black mouse lived.
