Alli's POV

He shut his eyes so that I could cry. I never liked having people see me cry. It made me feel helpless. Jade hadn't seen me cry since we were kids.

The memories of the previous night ran through my mind as I put my thigh-highs on to run out into the night again. We had a rule, if any one of us didn't show up in the fields within ten minutes of our arrival, we'd leave.

Luckily, he was right there rolling a flower between two fingers by its stem. He was still in a loose t-shirt and he had bed head. He looked very sleepy, but he came outside anyway. I told him to go back inside, neither of us had a potentially terrifying nightmare, so we could go back to our cabins.

I didn't go to sleep, instead, I did some random stuff inside my cabin and remodeled it from the inside. Once I was satisfied with it, the sun had already come out. I put on a cardigan that Faye gave me and went out.

The air was kind of cold that morning, so I was glad that I had chosen to wear it. I went and sat at the Hecate table, drinking hot chocolate while stirring it with a chocolate wafer straw that slowly melted into my drink.

Jaiden almost tripped over his feet walking over to me, it was funny to watch. He was still quite sleepy.

"Bruh, why didn't you sleep in? Its so early, you can barely walk!", I scolded. "Ah, whatever, I want some hot chocolate, can you get me some?", he said, rubbing his eyes.

Classic Jade, always answering a question with another question.

I rolled my eyes and went to go get him some hot chocolate. When I got back, I found him talking to a naiad. She had green skin and blue hair, but she was quite pretty.

He had a polite smile on which made me roll my eyes, Jaiden never smiled politely.

He was pretty deep in the conversation, it'd be nice if they were friends. He does need other people around apart from me, I guess.

"Who's she?", I asked him as I watched her retreating figure. She had gone back into the lake. "Her name is Hali", he replied, turning to me. "The sea", I translated. "Yeah, she's nice, we've been hanging out for a while actually.", he told me.

"You've never really told me about her, how come?", I asked, putting my hands on my hips. "Um, last time I checked, this was a free country, I don't have to tell you everything and you've been quite busy flirting with guys to notice who I've been hanging out with, I have a life outside of you, don't I?", he retaliated, imitating my action and putting his hands on his hips, too. "Woah there, Its way too early in the morning for me to argue with you. Fine, you're right.", I said.

We walked to archery practice, talking. In the middle, I did wave and wink at a few guys passing by which made Jaiden pull a disgusted face.

"What? I said you were right, I never said I'd stop. You can hang out with whoever you want and I'll keep flirting with guys them ditch them when I find something I don't like.", I explained. He just stopped and stared at me for a second, then slow clapped while I bowed.

"Rejecting so many people is no easy task, but it isn't impossible. With some dedication and focus, you could accomplish this as well.", I gloated as he slapped me upside the head.

"Ow! what the- Jaiden Carter, sleep with one eye open! you know touching my beautiful hair is off limits! all this gorgeousness doesn't just HAPPEN!", I shouted. He just laughed and ran away. Other people just watched us and shook their heads. This was nothing new.

While I bent over, panting, my brother iris-messaged me. Apparently he was gonna come and visit. Great, this meant I'd have to be extra careful sneaking out at night. Either way, Faye was coming, so I was happy for that. At dinner, I looked around and saw Jaiden who was, again, talking to Hali. They looked close, really, close...

Anyway, my best friend jealousy instincts were kicking in, but I just brushed them off and distracted myself with one son of Aphrodite. Ugh, he was good looking, but all he talked about were his new shoes so I just ignored him and again turned to look at Jaiden. Hm, he was still talking to her,  it was fine, it was all fine, I had other friends too, and Jaiden should have a social life, I won't be demanding. Its not like I'm dating him, I wouldn't wanna anyway, it would feel weird.

So I went to bed that night, trying to calm my restless mind.
