Mother's Day

Luz was holding the frying pan with one hand while the other was on her hip. The frying pan has sliced potatoes and some kind of meat scattered all over, its sizzling sound sounding up the whole kitchen.

She was humming a small tune to herself, her hair tied up.

"MORNING LUZ!" Hooty immediately popped up besides Luz. "WHAT'S COOKIN' BACON LATER?!"

"Hooty, the saying is 'what's cookin', good lookin'?'"

"WHY THANK YOU! BUT I'M NOT ACTUALLY COOKING, YOU ARE, HOOT!" He slithered out the kitchen and out the window, small hoots following after him.

"Oh you sneaky sneaky bird." Luz shook her head from side to side, a small smile on her face. "You really fell into that one, didn't you Luz?"

She turned back to the food cooking and mixed it once more, after moving over to the next counter, she looked over to the pot of coffee that seemed to be brewing. She looked up at the cupboards and pulled out a few plates and Eda's favorite mug.

She poured the coffee into the mug and scooped some of the food onto the plate, setting it down on Eda's chair.

Luz turned to add more food to everyone's assigned plate-ware, but was immediately met with Eda who had her ears pinned up into the air.

"Oh! Good morning Eda!" Luz called out happily, lifting herself slightly up off the ground with her toes, a big smile on her face.

"What's this? You tryin' to be the next best Bonesborough chef? A little set-up like this won't do the trick." Eda layed her hand on her hip. "I can get you a proper kitchen. Just might take a little 'legal' work." She pointed out a finger gun and clicked her tongue.

"Nope!" Luz brought her finger up. "Sit down! I made you breakfast!"

"Huh? Uh...I was gonna say free food, but this is my house, but I guess...free service? Yeah, free service is something I can't pass up." Eda walked over to her chair and sat down, being met with a plate with weirdly colored spears and a cup of spider's blood. Mm-mm.

"And what's this?"

"Papas con chorizo! Though, it's substituted. They don't have any of the ingredients exactly correct, but it's something. It's just some potatoes, which is a vegetable that's pretty good, and some meat. It's a little spicy though, so be careful!"

"And this?" She pointed to her drink.

"Coffee! You had some of the grounds lying around. It's a drink from the human realm that I think you would enjoy. I have some milk, sugar, and some other random stuff you can put inside of it that you may like. Try it!"

"Alright." Eda gave her a nervous smile and scooped up some of the food with her fork. She looked up at Luz who had a big and awaiting smile. Eda let out a nervous laugh and finally leaned in to taste her food.

Luz watched with sparkles in her eyes as her mentor chewed her food. What would she think? Did she make it right? Maybe it had too much potato substitute? Or too much chorizo substitute?

Luz's many crowding thoughts were finally answered when Eda stuck out her tongue and let the food roll out, crushing all of Luz's hopes and dreams.

"Bleh. Sorry Luz, it's not my cup of monster blood. Thank you though." She wrapped her hand around the handle of her mug and took a sip of her drink, completely forgetting about the new substance inside.

Her eyes widened and she took an even bigger sip. And another. And another. And another and another and another until there was no more.

"Pheeew-wee! Apple blood today hit the spot!" She set down her cup with a satisfied sigh.

"Actually, it was the coffee I was talking to you about. I'm guessing you liked it?" Luz lifted her head up slightly and watched as Eda's eyes widened.

"Huh. Well don't just stand there like a criminal in headlights, help your mentor out and pour me some more of that coffwee!"

"Coffee." Luz snickered, grabbing the pot of hot coffee and pouring the last of it in Eda's cup.

"It helps you stay energized, my mami really likes it, I'm not really a big fan myself, but it seems like you liked it. Oh wait! Your present!" Luz immediately turned on her heel and quickly ran out of the room.

"Present?" Eda asked quizzingly, piping up when Luz came back with two bags in her hands. A yellow one, and a blue one.

"Open it, open it, open it!" Luz jumped up and down in the air, watching how Eda rolled her eyes playfully and took the blue one in her hand.

She reached her hand inside and pulled out a tiny little Cursed Eda plushie, on the shoulder, there was a tiny Owlbert and a tiny Hooty on the other, Owl Eda looking much more cuter than the horrific monster that even Luz still had some nightmares about.

"This is...adorably sickening." Eda let out a small chuckle as she tightened her grip on the plush slightly, a small smile on her face.

"Now open the next one!" Luz added a bit of a sing-songy play to her voice.

"Okay okay, I will." She took the yellow one and brought it up right in front of her, and when she stuck her hand inside, she pulled out a framed photo, a framed photo with a picture of her, Luz, her cute little demon buddy, her adorable owl palisman, and her annoying, but friendly, owl guardian.

"Happy Mother's Day!" Luz held her hands behind her back and gave her mentor a smile. "I don't know if they have it here, but in the human realm, we have a holiday where we celebrate our mothers, and you took me in, and I consider you a second mom to me...if that's okay of course! I don't want you to think that you have to have that responsibility, or even the uncomfortable-ness of being called a mom, maybe I should've took that into consideration-" Luz was cut off by a hug from Eda, and what Luz think was small sniffles.

"Thanks kid..."
