Alright. Unless you have made like two arcs leading up to why your oc has abilities..........don't give them any. Why? When you come on that strong in your first book, you seem naive and unwitted. You have no backstory of their ancestors to lead up to why they should have them. Elders telling the kit who you gave powers will help a little, but not, well, not help at all. Let's start with my proof.
Me: 4th grade.
I picked up my first warriors book. I tried it out. My friend said, "Autumn! Please! Read the first arcs first! You won't understand any of it!" I shook it off, and tried out the first book of the Power of Three. And ohhhh god she was right. It started out telling me about the sharpclaws. Big mistake of doing this. I thought of so many wrong things, I look back at it now and Im like. WHY DID I THINK THAT. Then when Jaykit came in with the big prophecy I looked at him and said. Well can all cats do that? I guess. And continued on. Jaykit kept talking about blah blah blah Tigerstar blah blah blah Dark forest wants to take over and Im sitting there all innocent like: DARK WHAT? I HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS HAPPENING. I knew none of the villains. Nothing of Star clan, and all their ancestors. When Hollyleaf announced the big secret, I just sat there and asked myself. Uh. What? Please have something leading up to WHY an ability is given. P L E A S E.
