When it came to their friendship, Dabi had always felt insecure. He didn't know why, or maybe he did and he was just too oblivious to notice, too scared to take it in.
He was sure (Y/N) cared about him. That was obvious. She'd known him for so long that she practically treated him like a family. He should feel secure in where he was in her heart— but he was restless.
When it came to other people, Dabi felt jealous and he hated it.
That feeling surfaced after him leaving. If he could, then he would take her to come with him. He even had talked to her about his big goals and ambitions, in hopes that she would go with him, but she had been set on her own goals too.
Going to UA, where her father had studied.
It was of course unfair to her, who didn't even need to choose the hero path but did because she felt like she needed to, but it was also unfair to him, not being with the person who can ground him.
He didn't expect (Y/N) to make friends with Todoroki Shouto. That was the last thing he ever expected.
For all the times Dabi ranted to her about his masterpiece of a little brother, claiming that he views him as nothing more than his father's little puppet and that he thinks very little of him— one would think that (Y/N) would have never even want to interact with him.
So that's why he never would have guessed that she would make great friends with him. Sure, she didn't treat Shouto the same way she treated him, but he could see their interactions, and it made him terrified.
The inner turmoil that consumed him when he saw them at the training camp, Shouto addressing the (H/C) haired girl by her first name and them interacting so casually.
After that, it was a buildup.
Little things that seemed enormous to him, making him so unsure, so angry.
How could she suddenly start being friends with the person he despises?
Given, Shouto was her classmate, but he's known her for his whole life! He's always been there! He's made some mistakes, not telling her what he has been up to and making her worry, but for the most part, he's been the very best he could! He even revealed his true identity to her because he knew that it would at least make her feel something, not caring about the risks!
