"Why the fuck are you still here"

Alexander doesn't even look up at him. Doesn't even blink as his fingers fly across his keyboard.

"Fuck off, Burr. I'm busy."

From his place in the doorway, Aaron notices the dark lines under Hamilton's eyes. How his shoulders and back are tense. They almost always are. Aaron sighs.

"It's fuckin 2 am. Go home."

Aaron says, slightly annoyed with the situation. Aaron had been on his way home, not having realized the time had gone by so fast. He had packed up his things and walked to the elevator, only to see a familiar office with the light still on.

"Go fuck yourself."

Instead of being surprised or taking offense to the comment, Aaron walked further into the room. He circled around the desk to where Alexander had been working for god knows how long, and massaging Alexander's shoulders. Alexander opened his mouth to complain, before closing it. He hadn't even noticed how tense he was.

It continued like that for a while. Aaron massaging Alexander's neck and shoulders while Alexander worked. Complete silence apart from Alexander whispering to himself about his writing. The scene was peaceful, almost too peaceful for the friends turned rivals.

The longer Aaron continued, the heavier Alexander's eyes felt. Alexander needed to get this paper done he can't sleep now. Or, that's what he tried to tell himself at least. Though, now he's thinking about it, sleeping doesn't seem so bad-

Alexander shakes the thought out of his head and opens his eyes, not remembering when he had closed them. Aaron let out a small laugh before taking a step back and streching.

"Come on dickhead, you're obviously tired."

When Alexander turns his chair around, fully prepared to argue, he found all fight left him when he looked at the man in front of him. Aaron was obviously tired himself, shoulders slightly slouched and yawning every now and again. The smile on his face not being the false one he puts on to shield himself, but a small, lazy smile. One Alexander hadn't seen in months. Alexander had missed that smile.

Aaron looked between Alexander and his computer before he tilted his head at the man.

"So?"

Alexander sighed, before turning off hus computer and grabbing his keys. He could swear he saw Aaron's smile grow.

"Fine. Whatever. I'll just stay up tomorrow."

As they walk to the elevator together, Alexander noticed their closeness. Far to close for it to be considered just friendly. Hell, Aaron was practically leaning on him at this point.

"Isn't it that paper for Washington? That isn't due for another two weeks at least."

Aaron said, pressing the button for the first floor. Alexander just smiled at him.

"Might as well get it done now. Get a head start so-"

"So you can get a head start on the next one?"

Aaron said, with a chuckle.

"Seems a bit like an endless cycle no?"

The doors opened and they stepped out together, heading for the doors to the parking lot.

"I guess.."

Alexander said, his own tiredness finally catching up with him. Of course his brain had chosen then to completely give up on him.

They reach Alexander's car, Aaron's being parked further away, and have to part ways.

"Thanks I guess.."

Alexander says, rubbing the back of his neck. He doesn't really know what to say, but judging by the smile on Aaron's face, he did pretty good.

"Wasn't just gonna let you die there. You really need to take more breaks."

Aaron says, but then speaking again before Alexander has a chance to reply.

"I mean it. I'm-"

Aaron stops for a moment, rubbing at his eyes, Alexander makes the right move for once and decide to give him the time to think of what he wants to say, understands it's a bit harder for Aaron to actually talk about things.

"I'm worried about you. I don't want to see you destroy yourself."

It's quiet, not much above a whisper, but in the quiet of the night it seems deafeningly loud. Alexander immediately pulls Aaron close, too tired to have to think about what he is doing anymore.

"I won't. Well, I'll try not to."

Alex says, hugging Aaron tight as he can before letting go. Aaron gets his bearings for a second before smiling at him, it's small and shy, but it makes Alexander's heart well up with emotion.

"Alright. Goodnight, Alexander."

Aaron says, turning towards where his car is parked.

"Night, Aaron."

Alexander replies, opening the door to his own, thinking about Aaron the whole drive home.
