The 13 year old Alexander knew having an imaginary friend was stupid and childish. But when you are completely alone in the world and everyone you get attached to ends up dead, what other option do you have then to make up someone who won't die?
After his mother passed away Alexander made up a cute boy with dark brown eyes and a nice smile to keep him company. The boy was an orphan just like him. He named the boy 'Aaron Burr'. Aaron was a sarcastic short guy who was very smart but was often a giant prick.
Alexander would talk to Aaron for hours and Aaron would always listen. Alexander and Aaron went every where together. Aaron would even re-read what Alex writes to make sure it made sense. Alexander could even see Aaron as clear as day. At this point Alexander just believed Aaron was as real as him.
And if Alexander had a small crush on his fake friend, well who would know anyways?
No one else cared about him at all but here was finally someone who would stay. Someone who wouldn't, couldn't, die.
But nothing lasts forever.
As the days continued he saw Aaron less and less as if he was disappearing from Alexander's mind and by the age of 16, Aaron was gone.
Alexander continued to write, continued to make his money by stealing, continued being lonely.
At the age of 17 Alexander had basically forgotten all about his old friend.
During the hurricane Alexander had never felt so alone. While writing as people lay dead around him, covered in water, Alexander had never felt so alone. But as soon as he boarded that ship on its way to america, he felt hopeful like something big was coming. Then when he stepped off that ship, he felt like he finally had a chance at life.
When Alex hears about a boy who graduated college early, who's name sounds awfully familiar, he feels the strange need to meet him.
But when he sees a short man with dark brown eyes and a nice smile, he instantly remembered his 'imaginary' friend.
Alexander's feet seemed to move for him as he walked towards the man.
Alex felt confused as hell but when he taps the mans shoulder and he came face to face with those oh so familiar brown eyes, he felt like this was his destiny.
"Pardon me, are you Aaron Burr, sir?"
