Risa looked at her friends with a raised brow. It’s closing time, normally, the other girls are supposed to start flocking themselves around the café’s counter and tell interesting snippets of what transpired throughout the day but it seems that today is different. Rei is slouched at a corner, phone in hand, and looking dejected. Amber and June both looked like they are in cloud nine given the imaginary hearts in their eyes and dreamy sighs. Faye looked like a zombie as she gathers the left over pastries and places them neatly in a basket. Being the caring friend that she is, Risa brought it upon herself to get into the roots of her friends dilemma.
She clapped her hands twice. “Okay my dearies, what’s wrong?” She asked with cajoling smile.
Rei looked up from her phone and answered. “I think, my boyfriend is mad…at me? He is ignoring me since last night. Does this mean he doesn’t like me anymore?”
Rei’s sad tone snapped her friends from whatever daydreams they are having.
“K.S.?” June asked and Rei replied with a nod.
“Why? What happened? You didn’t tell me anything last night.” Amber quipped.
Rei sighed pocketing her phone. “You got home like two in the morning looking like you’re high or something so I didn’t bother telling you.”
This time the attention turned to Amber. “Did you…you promised us Amber that you’ll stop doing those stuffs.” Risa said eyes hard like she is reprimanding a child.
Amber raised both of her hand in defense. “Woah! Chill. I didn’t do anything bad. I just went to a bar. Drink a glass or two. Flirted with a dude, we didn’t even get to do theyou know.” Her friend cringed. “Then, Noah appeared and we went to a café. I’m clean, okay?”
Risa sighed in relief. “Thank goodness.”
Amber furrowed her brows, crossing her arms in front of her chest. “As if I’ll go back doing those fuck-ups; I’ve seen hell. I don’t want to go back in there. Ever.” She spat remembering the horrendous six months she suffered after her family disowned her when she came out and confessed her sexuality. It was the lowest and darkest moments of Amber’s life. Turning back to Rei, Amber asked. “So, why is your boy toy ignoring you?”
Rei shook her head. “I, I don’t really know.” She sighed sliding down to the floor, back on the wall. “Last night, I went to see James. I stayed there until ten,” She blushed remembering the incident with Keith. “—t-then, I went back home. I called him and told him how my day went like the usual.”
“You’re man is jealous, dude.” Amber hollered while the others nodded in agreement. “Just tell him that James is a family friend.” Faye contributed, handing over a slice of carrot cake to Rei that the blond accepted with a small smile. “—but I’ve told K.S. about James before. I think it’s what happened with Keith. He must have thou-”
“Wait, who is Keith?” Risa inquired with a raised brow.
“James’ workmate.” Rei shrugged. “He kinda popped out last night to get some documents from James and he, sort of, I’m not really sure, but--” Rei stammered, flushed.
“WHAT FOR PETE’S SAKE?!” June hollered, standing up from her seat.
“Came on to me! I DON’T KNOW!” Rei cried, lowering her head to rest on her knees.
June slumped back down on her chair. “Wow! Just wow! What did that Keith guy do? Kissed you?”
“Of course not!” Rei shouted, hands covering her face. “He..just..wiped the cream off of my face and,” Her face –up to her ears - turned bright red. “--licked off the cream from his thumb.”
