It’s midnight and Faye should really be asleep right now since she have to wake up by four in the morning but it seems that the girl cannot really fall asleep or more like she do not want to fall asleep yet. It’s Wednesday and every Wednesday, Kris calls her from Milan.

“—but maybe today he is busy and can’t make a call.” Faye muttered to herself, phone in her hand. She turned to her side and looked at her phone. She sighed. “Ah, I better sleep.” She said in resignation as she puts her phone on top of her side cabinet. Turning on her other side, she pulled the covers over her body and closed her eyes. However, not even a minute had passed since she closed her eyes, her phone rings. Her eyes immediately opened and she turned to grab her phone. “Hello.” She answered instantly not even looking at the screen to see who her caller is.

“Did I wake you up?”

It is Kris.

“No, not at all.” Came her hurried reply and Kris chuckled at the other end of the line. “Woah, why are you so lively? It’s already past midnight there, right?”

Faye bites her lower lip. Idiot. She mentally scolded herself. Taking a deep breath to calm her fast beating heart, she answered. “Yeah, fifteen minutes before one.”

“—and you’re still awake? You’re waiting for my call, I see.”

Faye knows that the blond is smirking on the other end. “Of course not, I, I was watching.” She replied, her voice shaking.

“Liar.” Kris said. “—your voice is shaking, princess.”

Princess. It’s what Kris calls her since they met when they were in kindergarten and even though nineteen years had passed, that word of endearment never fails to put a blush on Faye’s cheeks.

“A-anyway, what are you gonna tittle-tattle this time?” She asked trying to change the topic. Kris, from the time when he left four years ago to pursue his passion of performing on stage and in-front of millions of people, has been calling Faye perpetually every Wednesday just to ease the girl’s worries and his longing.

“Is it no good to call if I’m just missing your voice?”

“W-will you s-top,” Faye stammered and she can hear Kris’s laughter. “-y-you, don’t laugh!”

“But you’re so adorable. I bet you’re blushing right now.” And indeed, Faye is blushing red like a tomato.

“I hate you!” Faye cried.

“Oh, I love you too.” And Kris is laughing again. “Ah, I’m really happy that I could talk to you. My week has been so tiring and sad, you know?”

Faye’s face fell hearing that Kris had a disagreeable week. “Are you okay?”

Kris hummed. “I’m okay now that I heard your voice.”

“Kris,” Faye breathed. “—you know that you can always come back here whenever, right?”

“I know, of course, I do know that. It’s not that I cannot come back but it will be more appropriate for me to return home with something that I can present as proof of my stubbornness and hard work, right?”

“Kris, you know that Uncle and Auntie already understand why you insisted on pursuing your passion instead of becoming a doctor like them.”

“Yeah, but I just need to have something to bring home, you know, so that I can have that confidence to stand beside you.”

“Kris,”

“I know, I know, I’m sorry. You know that I have serious insecurity issues.”  He huffed trying to sound chill.

Of course, I know, we grew up together, of course, I know you. Faye thought but instead of voicing that thought out she opted to say. “I miss you.”

There was a few second of silence from Kris’s side because the male was taken aback by the sudden show of affection from Faye who rarely says such words. “I, I miss you too. I miss you so so much.”

“I love you.” Faye pushed.

This time Kris giggled. “Oh my, am I dreaming now?” He teased and Faye groaned. “I hat--”

“I love you to the moon and back.” Kris cut in. “I love you, Faye. I love you.”

This time it is Faye who giggled. “Cheeseball.”

Kris laughed. “So, how are the things on your side? Any interesting stories you can share?”

Faye replayed the events that happened earlier and her mind got stuck on her friends little fight. She let out a sad sigh. “Rei and June had a little misunderstanding.”

“Oh, what happened?”

Faye turned to her side. “Well, Rei got herself a boyfriend.”

Kris gasped in surprise and delight. He too is friends with Rei and they actually get along pretty well. “It’s way over the time limit! She’s been alone like forever – well, technically not since she and Amber are glued to the hips.” Then Kris released a defeated sigh. “Those two should stop the co-dependency, really!”

Faye chuckled. “Can’t blame them, they’ve known each other since their diaper days.”

“I got that. But a best friend is way different from a lover, you know.”

Faye nodded even though Kris cannot see her. “I know, I have you, right?”

“You bet.” Kris replied with a proud huff earning a mirthful chuckle from Faye. “Umm, I hate to say goodbye but I know that I cannot keep you to myself. So, bye for now, Faye. Sleep well, okay.”

“Yeah. Take care of yourself, okay?”

“Of course. Good night, Faye. I love you.”

“Good morning. I love you too.”

And Faye dropped the call. She looked at the opened window on her far right and sighed. “I should have come with you when you run away.” She breathed before she turned to rest on her back and close her eyes.
