"Don't forget to read the books I recommended to everyone. I will be giving a quiz next week as a review," Eva Lee said and stood up. "I'll see you in our next meeting."
The students fixed their stuff and left the room quietly. Heather, unfortunately, fell asleep in the middle of the class and Eva Lee didn't want to wake the girl up so she can miss the lessons. It's how she makes her students take responsibility for their doings.
"How tired were you that you dared to disrespect me in class?" She asked. Heather quickly opened her eyes and lifted her head to look at her teacher. "I should be sending you to Jadis Lavender for this irresponsible behavior."
"I-I had to stay up all night to finish my pieces for Ink Fictions. We're due this week--"
"Then learn to manage your time properly. Don't let your extra activities affect my class." Heather cleared her throat and sat properly. "Are we clear, Ms. Kim?"
"Yes." She took her books and stood up without meeting the other's eyes.
"Your powers," Eva Lee suddenly spoke. Heather stopped walking and turned around. "Is there any progress?"
"I don't think there is, Ms. Lee. I think it needs more time." She answered. Eva Lee nodded and gestured her to leave.
Heather let out a loud sigh after leaving the room. How could I tell her that my powers are not gonna come out? What would she think of me then? She combed her hair back in frustration and went to the cafeteria to have lunch with the others.
"Heather!" Wendy, who happened to sit with them again, called. It was just her and Maya. Heather smiled and sat beside her. "What took you so long? I thought you and Maya were classmates?"
"Eva Lee didn't want to wake her up," Maya answered for her. "Why did you have to stay up all night? Is Flake giving you the most work? I'm friends with other members of Ink Fictions and they aren't stressed for a bit."
"They're already good at writing. They've adapted. I'm still getting the hang of how Ink Fictions work. I still need to study their color and the dos and don'ts of the team." Heather answered and rested the side of her face on the table. "It's exhausting."
"I seriously wanted to join them but they didn't even take in my entry." Heather sat straight and turned to her. "How did they get yours? I only left mine in their workplace."
"Oh! I uh..." Am I supposed to tell them anything? What if the main pavilion is supposed to be a secret? Maybe I could tell her but without mentioning the passageway. "There's this sparkly pavi--" She was taken aback when someone suddenly covered her mouth from behind. She turned around and widened her eyes seeing Flake with his signature blank face.
"Flake!" Maya shouted in surprise. "Why are you here? Go find your own table."
Heather pulled his hand down and pushed him away. "Who said you could just do that?" She asked, annoyed. "You might be my boss in Ink Fictions but it's a whole different world outside that place."
"That was why you were so kind and quiet when you're there? Well, I can't say I didn't think of that." He lowered his voice when saying the last sentence.
