The first chapter of the Myth buster series !

And what better way to start than a man who is surrounded by myths.

The Jyesht Bhrata of Pandavas, Danveer, Suryaputra, Radhey, Vasusen, Karn !
~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Krishna initially wanted Karn to become the Chakravartin Samrat not Yuddhistir.
False !
We all know the story of Nar-Narayan and Dambhod-bhava. (Google it if you don't)
So lastly in their battle it was Rishi Nar's turn to battle Dambhod-bhava who was left with just one armour, so Dambhod-bhava took refuge in Suryadev.
And in their next lives, Dambhod-bhava was Karn and thus was born with an impenetrable armour, and Rishi Nar was reborn as Arjun and Krishna is Narayan.
Karn was always destined to die at the hands of Arjun ! And thus Krishna could've never wanted Karn to become Chakravartin.
Yuddhistir was Dharm-raj, no one beside him was worthy to become Chakravartin Samrat. Krishna also wanted him to become Samrat and not himself. (Shri Ram was Chakravartin so why not Krishna ?)
2) Karn had the most number of weapons in Mahabharat.
True !
Parshuram gave Karn all the weapons he had except his Parshu.
3) Arjun couldn't have defeated Karn if he had the armour.
False !
Again Rishi Nar was supposed to penetrate Dambhod-bhava's last armour and kill him. So Arjun being the reincarnation of Rishi Nar could penetrate his armour but Indradev took it before to ease the work.
Arjun could've used Raudrastra, Pashupatastra, Vaishnav-astra or Brahmastra to penetrate the armour.
4) Karn was Ati-Maharathi.
False !
Everywhere in Mahabharat, he is referred to as Maharathi Karn.
5) Karn and Arjun were equals.
Okay this might cause a heated debate but I am going say it anyways....False !
After a thorough reading from various sources and by keeping a neutral perspective, I can say that Karn wasn't Arjun's equal.
Arjun in terms of archery was far better than Karn, and this was proved in Draupadi’s swayamvar and Virat war and many incidents.
6) Guru Dronacharya rejected Karn as his student.
False !
Karn was a student of Dron and there he became the friends of Kauravas because he was always jealous of Arjun.
Arjun was very young than Karn in age but was still excelling the archery better than him. (One more incident that tells Arjun was better than Karn in archery.)
So once Dronacharya was teaching the weapon, I suppose either Brahmashir or Brahmastra, but to summon it one needs to pass a test.
Arjun passed it in first try, Ashwathama and Karn failed. Dronacharya gave Ashwathama a second chance but not to Karn saying that being the friend of Kauravas he would use it for bad things.
Karn got angry at the double-standards and left saying he will acquire all the divine astras from Dronacharya's guru himself, Parshuram.
7) Karn had Pashupatastra.
False !
In Mahabharat Mahadev tells that only two humans have held Pashupatastra, Shri Ram and Arjun.
This means Parshuram didn't have Pashupatastra, and neither did Karn because he acquired all the weapons from Parshuram only.
And fairly speaking, Karn wasn't worthy to wield Pashupatastra.
8) Karn's brother Shon was forced to drink hot melted gold because he chanted gayatri mantra.
False !
Straight out of Suryaputra Karn eh ?
Use your common sense, if one drinks hot melted gold, he/she would die on spot ! But Shon was killed by Arjun in the Kurukshetra.
Varna system was originally based on one's work, but during the Mahabharat time it became based on one's birth.
But at that time it was still flexible, like a shudra who gained the knowledge of vedas could become a Brahmin, they were known as Shudra-brahmin and could teach in gurukuls.
And if a Brahmin engaged in impious activities he could be reduced to a shudra or removed out of the Varn-system that is he would become Avarn.
And Varn-system at that time wasn't so rigid, it was at least 1000-2000 years later that it became so rigid, during the Mauryan period.
9) Karn was sad at Abhimanyu's death.
False !
Karn and Duryodhan were the only ones laughing shamelessly.
10) Arjun ran away from Karn's bhargav-astra because he was afraid.
False !
First of all Karn didn't use the Bhargav-astra on Arjun, but on Panchal and Chedi army. And second of all Karn fans have overhyped Bhargav-astra a little too much.
Arjun and Krishna decided to visit Yuddhishtir who was greatly injured by Karn and assuage him and then take up the fight with Karn later.
Because if Yuddhistir dies then the war will be over, thus Arjun visited him first. Also many allied kings who were injured by Bhargav-astra called for Arjun and Krishna for help.
Come on now, do you really think the one who has Pashupatastra, Brahmastra, Vaishnav-astra, Brahmashir will be afraid of Bhargav-astra ?
