Ring...ring...ring...
"Oh shoot! I've got to get ready for school, there is a mathematic examination today." Hayden shouted in terror.
He changed his clothes, ate breakfast, and ran off to school.
(After reaching school and studying for the examination:)
"Please pack everything into your bag pack except for your pencil case, calculator, and water bottle. After that, put your bags outside of the classroom."
Mr. Lim, the math teacher, commanded.Hayden took out all his needed materials and put his bag outside.
The examination paper was handed out after everybody has placed their bags outside.
"You may now begin."
(3 hours later)
"Please put your pens down, I will start collecting your papers now."
Mr. Lim collected back the papers and released the class.
"I think I did splendidly in the examination, I had studied many hours for this and everything came out perfectly as I expected." Hayden boasted to his friend, another Hayden in his class.
The teacher had started marking the papers the day after.
He stayed up for a few nights marking them, rechecking them in case of any mistakes.
A week later:
"Good morning class! I will be returning your examination papers and I have to say that I am very proud of everybody. There is somebody in this class who did very well despite failing in the past year's examination papers." Mr. Lim said proudly.
"And that person is...Hayden!"
Everybody started clapping.
Hayden was shocked but also not as he had burned the midnight oil for the exam. He was delighted he finally passed with flying colors. But he was so joyful, he had forgotten that he had another friend named Hayden as well. So which Hayden had done well?
All of the papers had been passed back to the students.
Hayden glanced through his marks.
"Wait, I failed?!"
"But how? Mr. Lim said I had passed with flying colors."
Hayden looked around the classroom and saw his friend, the other Hayden, looking gleeful.
He blushed in embarrassment. He had boasted to all of his friends around him about his marks even before looking at them.
They all peaked at Haydens' marks out of curiosity and started laughing loudly.
He had failed miserably even after all those efforts of studying and burning the midnight oil.
His eyes started to water.
His friends started calling him 'dumb', 'stupid', and or 'idiot'.
They never stopped but they agreed that if Hayden had passed math at least once, they would stop. But knowing Hayden, he never passed math so it continued until they all graduated.
