~Y/n P.O.V.~
"Things are changing." Gally starts as we were all in the council hall. The keepers all stood around me, me sitting in the back as they discussed my actions.
I glanced up, meeting those familiar brown eyes. Thomas gave me a reassuring smile. I gave a tight one back. I broke the rules. Something was bound to happen to me. But... I feel like Thomas would try to prevent that.
"There's no denying that." Gally continues, all the boys staying silent. "First, Ben gets stung in broad daylight. And then Alby. And now one of our Greenies, here, has taken it upon herself... to go into the maze. Which is a clear violation of our rules here."
"Yeah..." Frypan speaks up. "but she saved Alby's life." He meets my eyes, giving me a little smile.
Gally raises a brow at him. "Did she? For three years, we have coexisted with these things. And now," Gally points at me. "you've killed one of them. Who knows what that could mean for us."
"Well, what do you suggest we do?" Newt asks.
Gally shrugs. "She has to be punished."
At his words, I rolled my eyes a little, seeing Thomas doing the same thing. Of course. Gally has had it out for us since the day we came up.
"Come on."
"She killed a Griever!"
All the boys had spoken up at the same time, objecting Gally's idea of a punishment for me. I saw Thomas sitting in silence, glaring at the builder.
"Minho." Newt calmly speaks over the voices, everyone staying silent as they all look at the said runner. "You were there with her. What do you think?"
"I think..." Minho starts, sighing. "in all the time we've been here... no one has ever killed a Griever before. When I turned tail and ran... this dumb shank stayed behind to help Alby. Look, I don't know if she's brave or stupid. But whatever it is, we need more of it. I say we make her a runner."
Everyone then started speaking up again.
"Minho, let's not jump the gun, here." I hear Frypan say.
"Y/n! Y/n! Y/n!" I hear Chuck chant my name, but it soon faded out. Thomas and I met eyes again, me getting a small smile. I could see a little disappointment on his face. I knew he wanted to be runner, just like me.
"If you want to throw the newbie a parade, that's fine." Gally exclaims in anger loudly, making everyone quiet down. "Go ahead. But if there is one thing I know about the maze... it is that you do not-"
Gally was cut off by a familiar sound.
Was that? The Box?
Newt and Gally led the way out of the council hall, all the boys following. Minho, Chuck, Thomas, and I all walked out together.
"Okay, wait. I know that sound." Thomas observes, sharing a look with me.
"The Box. It's coming back up." Chuck informs.
"It shouldn't be." Minho says before we start jogging the the Box.
"It's another girl." I hear Newt inform just as we got there. Thomas and I slightly pushed past the boys, staring down into the box.
There was, in fact, a girl laying there, unconscious.
She looked familiar.
"I think she's dead." Newt observes.
"What's in her hand?" Gally questions.
Newt carefully and slowly leans over the girl, taking a piece of paper out of her grip. I kept my eyes on her. She looked so familiar.
