Max's eyes open and closed weakly as the alarm blared loudly. The room lit up with red then faded to black then red again. She couldn't breathe correctly. Her whole body felt numb.
The room she was in was cold and dark. She would never admit this out loud, but she was terrified. What if El wasn't coming? What if this was her way of getting rid of her?
Thoughts swarmed her minds. She shivered, needing warmth. Her vision was clouded by tears. Honestly, Max was surprised she had any tears left. "I love you Eleven Jane Hopper," she whimpered. Max felt her arms weaken and collapse to the floor. She groaned as her bruised cheek made contact with the cold, hard tiles. She let out a shaky breath as she closed her eyes for the last time.

El ran through the familiar place. She went as fast as her legs could go. Tears filled her eyes as she thought about what would happen if they were too late. The others ran after her just as quick. El looked at a door, pushing it open. Please be the right one. She almost screamed as she saw her wifes limp body. She ran to her, shaking her as tears rolled down her cheeks. "Max! Max. get up! Please wake up! I need you!" She sobbed, holding her close to her. Max wasn't breathing. El let out a blood curdling scream.
Mike sat next to his sister-in-law. He put a hand on her shoulder. Tears ran down everyone's cheeks as they realized the fate their zoomer had.
"I love you," El whispered as she kissed her head.
The rest of the gang made it out of the lab, alive and guilty. They had lost one of their own.
