"Listen to RAYQUAZA."

I made this up whilst writing it so it's probably gonna get a rewrite in the future, also holy shit it's been almost a year since I last updated this book?? I mean I haven't had much ideas lately but still wtF

I was reaching my personal best on this Emerald speedrun. I was thinking throughout the match whether or not I should save Rayquaza for after or before Juan. However that decision was made when I missed picking up the earthquake TM back before Archie's battle.

The reason is because of Juan's Kingdra. It stalls with rest and can be a real pain unless I have Swampert with earthquake or Rayquaza.

I flew to Pacifilog Town before surfing my way over to Sky Pillar's little island. I remembered how much I would despise Sky Pillar as a kid since it was a such a pain to climb, and I wanted Rayquaza really badly. It wasn't until my friend helped me up until I got my catch.

Anyways, less on the past and more on the present.

I swiftly climbed up to my surprise, thinking it would be a couple goes until I successfully got up, but I wasn't complaining. I ran up my character to the Rayquaza sprite and saw it looked a bit different. It's yellow accents were now blue and it's green shade was now darker. It didn't bother me at the time, as I started the battle.

The music crackled, making me flinch. I turned my speakers down thinking there was something wrong with them, like a wire snapped or something.

Then, I saw the sprite and knew something was up.

It was during a livestream and the chat was going crazy. Everyone was spamming random letters that maybe were words but the chat was going so fast I couldn't make anything out.

The Rayquaza cry was heard but as a glitch, if that's even the right way to describe it.

I stared at the sprite for a good couple seconds. It's yellow accents were blue and flashing, the light green had turned dark and the sprite kept twitching.

The text box read "Wild RAYQUAZA appeared!" as normal. I checked my timer and remembered that it was still a speedrun I was doing, so I wanted to make progress. If I could make progress.

I pressed A but the screen flashed black with Rayquaza's and Swampert's sprites turning white. What looked like pixelated blood was dripping from their eyes and they looked to almost be dead. A screech played too.

It was only for a second but scared me enough that I knocked down my camera. I moved it back up and stared at the screen in front of me.

I was about to go to bag to use the Masterball but noticed another text box appeared instead. It read, "What happened to RAYQUAZA?"

I was shook, was I playing a ROM hack? Or was this an Easter egg that no one happened to discover for all these years?

The menu was open, and I went to my bag. I went to the Masterball, but when I pressed A a text box read "Don't. Don't do it." over and over again.

I began panicking since not only was it on live stream, but was a personal best. Well, it wasn't anymore now, so technically all it was about me finding out what happened here.

I went back to the menu and instead of going to "run" since I knew Swampert didn't outspeed, I went to "fight". I tried to pick surf but instead a text his read "SWAMPERT wants you to RUN AWAY!"
"RAYQUAZA wants you to BATTLE IT!"
"What will A do?"

I decided to listen to Swampert since Rayquaza could probably kill Swampert if it really wanted to. I pressed run but a text box said "No, no, no, no! RAYQUAZA wants to BATTLE YOU!"

I paused. What was I supposed to do? Be in and endless cycle or restart the whole game? I pressed A thinking the menu would show up, but instead it said
"Listen to RAYQUAZA!"
It was really worrying me now. Swampert didn't want to attack but Rayquaza wanted me to, so... I guess it was an endless cycle. I pressed A.
"Foe RAYQUAZA used ???!"

The screen flickered between black and the normal screen. However every time it flickered back, I could see the Rayquaza sprite moving. It kept moving in different directions slowly slowly until every frame it was in a different location.

It continued until Rayquaza reached the middle of the screen and the background remained black, but the sprite had a white outline, like something from Undertale.

The eerie Rayquaza cried played, as it sounded slowed down and crackly, like the music, which had now stopped.

A text box read:

"Leave this game. Listen to RAYQUAZA."

An option showed up. It was either:
"No"
or,
"Leave".

(Oejdosbs this is actually kinda funny)

I pressed "no", curious to see what'd happen.

The screen flickered again and another text box showed.
"Listen to RAYQUAZA."
"Listen to RAYQUAZA."
"Don't end up like GROUDON and KYOGRE."

Once again, the options from before showed up. I was pretty scared, thinking my computer was infected with a virus or something, but I pressed "leave".

Then, the tab which the ROM was open on shut down. I tried to reopen it but "error" or "this file doesn't exist" always showed up instead.

That was the last time I'd ever play Emerald.
