The Great Hall was extremely crowded, per usual. The beginning of the year feast was one that some, perhaps most, students looked forward to. With seemingly endless amounts of roast, pumpkin juice, sweets, and more, it's safe to say that the 11-year olds were enthralled.
However, Cassiopeia wasn't looking forward to the feast. She would much rather just get her schedule and move on with the year. After all, it would always end the same way when she got "home." With Cassiopeia in a cold, dark abyss, the concept of time completely slipping away. With bruises and gashes that plagued her sickly-pale, skin. And worst of all, with the thoughts that would keep on coming back. Like intruders in the night, they stealthy arrived under a cloak of darkness and despair and infected her mind. She often wondered, "Why am I not good enough? Why is it all my fault? Why did my father leave me? Why? Why? Why?"
Needless to say, Cassiopeia's mind was elsewhere. She didn't care about the roast, or the pumpkin juice, or the sweets. No. Those things have never appealed to her, materialistic things that is. She would rather be starved and loved rather than what she is now. Moderately full, even if she only took a few bites of a chocolate frog on the train, and hated, seemingly by everyone around her and herself. Because after all, who would love her if she couldn't love herself?
Shaking her head to clear the thoughts, she walked over to her house table, her face completely void of any emotion. Sitting next to her favorite, and only known, cousin, she gave him a small smile. The Malfoy's' were the only other people, besides her mother, father, and Dumbledore, to know that she was an Black-Avery, and not just an Avery.
"Draco," Cassiopeia nodded.
"Cassie," the pale, blonde boy continued, "you're looking peaky, here, have a bread roll."
Draco was always, surprisingly, very motherly towards Cassiopeia, not that she would know what a mother's love feels like. She assumed he learned it from Narcissa, who was also quite kind. Lucius, in her opinion, was a foul git who was more focused on keeping his "perfect, pureblood family image" intact rather than actually caring for his family.
Speaking of her cousin, he was her only true friend, besides Daisy. Cassiopeia had more admirers than friends in Slytherin. Even if she was younger than the people who respected her, she was still extremely well respected, Cassiopeia had an aura of power and strength. It sucked one in and once they were in, the high, the pure rush of feeling, they got from it was enough to make them want to be indebted to her forever.
Perhaps it was the fact that she was top of her year, and top of her house, and top of the school in academics. Maybe it was the fact that she was stunningly beautiful, so much so that sometimes classmates would wonder if the small girl had Veela blood in her. Or perhaps it was that she had a terrifying glare, a famous last name, and a vast amount of money in her Gringotts account, so much so that if she spent 100 galleons a day, she still wouldn't make a dent in the vault by the time she is 80. Either way, Cassiopeia was glad that it worked, because if it didn't, she would have to deal with the absolute bitch that is her mother. And she wouldn't wish that on her worst enemy. (Maybe Potter, but only if he kept on annoying her.)

Like every year, the Sorting Hat sang its song and then the first years came to be sorted. Cassiopeia wasn't paying too much attention, however, she was listening for one name in specific.
Daniels, Alexandria,
HUFFLEPUFF!Song, Samantha,
GRYFFINDOR!McAndrews, Joshua,
SLYTHERIN!Of course, she and the rest of her table clapped after hearing they had a new Slytherin. Whereas the Gryffindor table boo-ed and threw things at the young boy.
Poor thing, Cassiopeia thought. She always thought their rivalry was quite stupid.
Finally, she heard Luca's name.
Halifax, Luca,
...
RAVENCLAW!Cassiopeia loudly applauded and sent the boy a beaming smile, not noticing the looks that were happening around her, more specifically, the fact that Harry Potter was openly staring and the 5th year with a smile on his face, and Draco Malfoy was glaring at the boy, pulling his little cousin closer into his embrace.
In order to get close to Cassiopeia Avery, Harry Potter had to get Draco Malfoy to trust him. And that, my friends, would be a Herculean task, however, if Harry Potter was one thing, he was James Potter's son. Meaning that he would get the girl, even if he had to play the long game.
