"I don't need you to hold my hand" Makayla sassed as she snatched her hand away and ran ahead of her moms boyfriend taking the stairs two at a time until she got to her apartment door opening it .
"I thought I told you to go outside since you didn't like the smell of smoke" her mom said as soon as she saw her . "And close the door , you don't pay for nothing on here especially this air" she said waving her hand. "Hand me my phone , it's right there" she said as if the phone wasn't literally right beside her .
"I'm thirsty"Makayla said as she handed her the phone .
"I gave you a popsicle "Annie argued .
"That's not water , it's artificial fruit juice which makes you crave water and you should really stop smoking . You're gonna get cancer and die" Makayla shrugged .

"Who told you that dumb shit ? You don't get cancer from weed. School needs to start back up because you're getting on my last damn nerve" Annie sighed rubbing her temples .
"Uncle Shawns girlfriend . Her names Beyoncé , she's really pretty mama" Makayla said sitting on the floor close to the tv .
When she reached for the remote to change the channel she accidentally knocked over some brown stuff and some pills.
As soon as she realized what they were she looked at her mom like she had betrayed her by even having those in her possession .
"Fuck off" she said brushing them away from her . "Drugs are bad" she said remembering what Beyoncé told her .
"I'm about to beat your ass . Do you know how much you just wasted ? I oughta make you go outside and work for it" she said getting down on her hands and knees to pick up as much as she could thankful they had hard wood floors .
